To all Titanium Backup users. (self.Android)

I always used an app called "Appextractor" to get my apps back on my system after flashing new ROMs. It extracted my apps + data out of a NAND backup(In the free version only 5 at a time). Now I found Titanium Backup, and tried it out. I made a backup of my user-apps and restored them on a freshly installed rom, but while restoring them TB asked me to go through a manual installation for every singe app. It simply stacked the installations. Appextractor somehow installed the apps itself with no interruption.

So here is my question: I really don't want to stay at my phone all the time while restoring my apps as it is a really long process. Does this change in the pro version? I really want to switch to TB because of its features, but this buggs me as I am using it after every flash.

Yes, the pro version can restore your apps without any interaction.

It's definitely worth it, one of the better purchases I've made on my phone, as long as you're changing roms occasionally it's well worth it.

It also has an option to restore apps from a nand backup. It's under menu -> more on pre-ics roms. That's what sold me on it.

Very worth it if you're playing with roms a lot. It's even worth it for when you switch phones eventually.. Painless restoring of apps and settings in minutes.

I have the pro version and I have encryption on. I seem to have to do the manual way. Is there a setting I should change or is this just how it is with encryption on?

AFAIK, it should be on by default. What does your Fast/auto app install setting say (on the main app screen)? It should say yes.

you're not rooted properly or your busybox isn't complete. I've never had that message myself but i'm pretty sure that's where that comes from.

When you first boot up the app there's a list of things and they should all say yes next to them in order for all the features to work right.

Unfortunately I'm not sure how to fix it but there is a busybox app on the market that i use to keep up to date, maybe that'll fix it. (busybox installer lite i think it's called)

That's happened to me before. Does it still ask you to buy the pro version? If so, make sure you have the pro key downloaded and uninstall Titanium Backup, then re-install. Should fix it.

No, mine acknowledges that it's the pro version. Everything seems to work fine, but it says HyperShell needed. Perhaps I should get a proper busybox installer?

Although half of the time it will freeze midway and you'll have to end up changing the mode to the interactive one anyways

You might want to try mybackup and go backup also before buying it.

I find mybackup pro works far better than titanium backup. It also restores sms messages and other settings. Dunno why TB gets such a good rating. I purchased it and I find it useless.

Yes, but do NOT restore system apps, only user apps. Restoring data/apps for system apps (like Wallet, Maps, etc) will only cause you trouble. If they've been updated/upgraded, you have a good chance of restoring data that isn't compatible with the upgraded version.

Sorry for the noob question...does Titanium Backup back up just what apps you have, or does it also save the data for all apps too (progress made in games, etc.)?

I too used to be a big fan of AppExtractor, enough to purchase it actually. However the performance of AE really seems to degrade during larger restores.

I've found that TB runs fantastic even under heavy circumstances. There are a variety of automation tricks that make life easier as well.

Basically, TB is worth every penny.

Basically, TB is worth every penny.

I can confirm this! Just bought it and it has the features of AE and even more. I am glad I made the right decision.

Why not just save your /data/ partition? I've found that unless you are moving between Android distributions, you can just either keep /data/ or backup, wipe, flash ROM, flash data img. Of course, this doesn't work for system apps. But yeah a flashed upgrade with /boot/, /system/, and /cache/ wiped and your data and sdcard are left alone you can perform more or less a seamless upgrade.
