Just Cause 2! It's chaos, and delivers hours of fun.

The Orange Box, 5 great games for the price of 1!

[–]SalamanderOfDoom 0 points1 point ago

And not to mention that you can probably get it for under $10 now at gamestop

Some of my favourites are:

  • Alpha Protocol - Has some problems, but overall a good game. You could probably pick this up extremely cheap (less than $10).

  • Batman: Arkham Asylum + Arkham City - They're Batman games done right.

  • Bayonetta - Incredibly fun action game.

  • Darksiders - Amazing adventure game.

  • Deadly Premonition - Has a decent story and good atmosphere (horror). Has a ton of other problems though. I'd recommend reading up on it before buying, but you can pick it up very cheap.

  • Just Cause 2 - Extremely fun sandbox game.

  • LEGO Games - Batman, Star Wars, etc. Great games that are extremely fun, especially with 2 players.

  • Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 - Great game for 4 player co-op. I wouldn't recommend the first one though (that could just be personal preference).

  • Mass Effect 1/2/3 - Probably my favourite sci-fi games.

  • Red Dead Redemption - Great western sandbox game.

  • The Saboteur - Another game with problems, but still quite good. Again, you can pick this up for under $10.

  • Saints Row: The Third - This game is just fun. Not particularly difficult, and will probably last you about 20 hours. I had fun for all of those 20 hours though.

There are probably a ton more that I'm forgetting, but those would be some that I highly recommend.

For $45, you could probably get Alpha Protocol, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, The Saboteur and another game. That should keep you quite busy.

Edit: I would also recommend checking this list out.

i HATE SR3. RDR, i have, its awesome. Mass Effect - meh. JC2 - err.... Darksiders, played. Thanks for the list!

I figured that you'd probably played most of the well known ones, but hopefully you'll enjoy some of the other ones.

[–]lowbrowhijinks 2 points3 points ago

I second the Saboteur especially for a bargain price- I had a blast with it. Definitely one that slipped under a lot of people's radar. But I'd warn you away from Alpha Protocol. It's not so much that it has problems, it's more of a trainwreck where not all the cars got smashed. It's bad is what I'm saying.

[–]Vile2539 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I guess Alpha Protocol isn't for everyone. I enjoyed the gameplay, and thought the choice system was excellent in it. It had some annoyances, but I definitely got more than my money's worth with it.

[–]spases 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

is ultimate alliance 2 an automatic omggetit if you enjoyed the first one? i've kinda considered getting it but i haven't heard anything good or bad about it from anywhere.

[–]Vile2539 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I actually didn't like the first MUA, though I only played it after MUA2. I found it a lot harder to see what was going on, didn't enjoy the heroes as much, and thought the storyline was a bit weak.

I felt that MUA2 was an improvement in nearly every way. I'd recommend getting it if you enjoyed MUA.

Mafia II, Skyrim, Fifa 12 (if you enjoy football (or soccer) ), Left for Dead, L.A. Noire, Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto IV, Battlefield 3... can't think of any more must haves, but I advise you avoid Call of Duty at all costs.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

YES, Fuck call of duty, such a terrible series, hasn't been good since Cod4. It's the same recycled garbage every year and idiots keep wasting there money on it.

[–]JamMasterJai 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I'm ashamed to say I'm one of those idiots, but I'm going to do my best to completely avoid buying Black Ops 2. The only reason I got Modern Warfare 3 was the story (I get hooked to nearly any game's story line). But I definitely enjoyed CoD4- got the Mile-high club achievement on it, probably my proudest achievement ever xD

[–]Multisyllabic 0 points1 point ago

No where near as fun as 3 was. The story line was lacking in many areas. 3 was solid all the way through, even with the DLC's (minus OA, I never played that one).

[–]necromundus 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

You're not missing anything, Operation Anchorage was terrible. I agree Fallout 3 was better in many respects, although I wish it has as much content as New Vegas.

[–]steven777400 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

If you have Kinect, Gunstringer is an interesting use of the technology and pretty fun. You control a puppet in a western themed "revenge"-style plot line. It's basically a first person shooter but cartoony and fun instead of gory and gritty.

Eternal Sonata. I never hear anybody talk about it. It's also fro the PS3 if that is an option. It's definitely a JRPG though so if that's not your thing, don't get it. However, it's a great game. I got it used at Gamestop for like 20 bucks.

Red Dead Redemption and Bioshock are great for their story. I also enjoyed Mass Effect 1 and Lost Odyssey. If you're looking for absurdity, EDF 2017 is like an old B-movie. And if you're looking for bounty hunter action, try Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath.

[–]necromundus 0 points1 point ago

Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon (the sequel) came out not too long ago. Totally hard to find anywhere, but it captures the acradey gameplay of the original and adds classes to it. Everything you enjoyed about the first only better.

Gears 1 and 2 can be bought together for less than $20 now. GTA4. Any Ace Combats.

Rayman Origins for platforming, Binary Domain for third person shooter, Alan Wake for a 'horror' action game, Viva Pinata for shits, LOTR War in the North for an RPG, Shadows of the Damned for a kick ass experience. All should be quite cheap now.

I really suggest Borderlands. It's definitely one of the most unique and captivating games I've played in the last few years. So much so, that I constantly have dreams about it after playing it. You can get it fairly cheap by now, too.

[–]Michael95 0 points1 point ago

I disagree. I played the entire campaign twice on my own and had a blast. Yes, it is better with co-op (played through again and through the DLC on co-op), but it certainly holds up just fine on single player.

If you're a sports guy, NBA 2k12 is awesome. Great Franchise-type game mode, and create-a-player. For shooters, Battlefield 3 no contest. RPG? Fallout 3 is awesome. Red Dead Redemption is also up there on my list. If you like racing, I suggest NFS: Shift (The first one!). Or Midnight Club LA. Finally, just messing around games? GTA IV brings hours of fun.

P.S.- Don't buy just one game, try to buy a multiplayer AND a single player game so you don't get bored. cough BF3 and Fallout 3 Cough

Fallout 3 and New Vegas. Before I knew what Fallout even was, I googled something along the lines of nuclear games and found the series. Never looked back.

Just Cause 2. Incredible, beautiful map to fuck shit up on.

Skate 3. Countless hours spent just exploring the map and doing tricks.

GTA4. Too much fun on that.

[–]necromundus 0 points1 point ago

Soul Calibur IV is a good fighting game available for Xbox (bonus character is Yoda). If you're into XBox live arcade I recommend Iron Brigade (by Double Fine, Tim Schafer's company) as well as Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2.

[–]Mc_Gibblets 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Fable 2 was very shallow compared to 1, basically held your hand the whole time, plus the ending came and went and left me feeling like I hadn't accomplished anything. 3 just felt like they were phoning it in and got lazy with it. Yes, it was beautiful, but the gameplay was quite boring and waaay too easy. I didn't even finish it because I was so bored with it.

  • Gow 3 is a great campaign, and the multiplayer is the best yet.

  • Bioshock 1 is one of the best single player experiences out there, game will also be super cheap.

  • Arkham Asylum is a blast, I got mine new for $19.99 Beat it in the first 2 days I had it because of how fun it was.
