No one has mentioned Boogies? It might not be the best, but its very good.

They have decent burgers but the beef they use is pink slime.

I thought pink slime was the chicken/white meat. Your telling me that its our beef as well?

[–]Dirtpig 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Pink slime is the beef, not chicken. And yes, that pre ground beef you are buying at the grocery store is still 100% beef but is mostly pink slime. It is legal in Canada to sell the stuff as 100% beef. We try to get most of our meat from local farmers now. Buy a big roast and cut your own steaks from it and grind yourself a couple of pounds. The taste difference is noticeable instantly.

The burgers at Wurst are exceptional. Definitely my favourite burger.

Too bad the place is a rip off on all fronts.

The burger with the sides was 15$. Definitely a few dollars more than you would pay at a standard pub, but the quality is definitely more than a few dollars higher in my opinion.

For sure, if you have a place you'd like to see visited feel free to request it here: http://www.burgerquest.ca/contact.html

Model Milk has one of the best burgers I've ever had. It's the first burger I've tried that was served medium rare.

E Coli is the main reason why I will never eat any ground beef product that isn't cooked through and through. Beef can be recalled at any time.

I usually stay away too but I thought I would give it a try. You can ask for them well done too.

[–]nintendosixtyfour 0 points1 point ago

Is it ground beef or do they use steak like steak tartare?

[–]boilerroombandit 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Both can be subject to E Coli because they involve mixing the beef together. Only if you use a steak and grind it yourself are you safe from it and even then I'd recommend taking a torch to the outside of it.

/I may be paranoid when it comes to E Coli.

I know that Buchanans grinds it themselves, and that's why you can get a medium rare burger there.

The taste of medium rare round beef/steak is.. fantastic. You're missing out :)

[–]boilerroombandit 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I'll happily sear the outside of a steak and leave the inside bloody. It's when it's ground that I'm more than willing to miss out.

[–]shelfoo 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Buchanans is probably the best burger I've ever had. Ground sirloin, ground there (so you can order it medium rare). It's close to the perfect burger IMO.

Also good, although more hit and miss, is the District Burger at The District.

Any plan to get outside the city after you guys have eaten your way through it? Cause the Hitchin' Post in High River makes some awesome burgers.

This.

There has been some discussion about a "burger blitz" between here and Edmonton over a long weekend. Nothing imminent though.

Not sure about high river but if you want to email in a recommendation I'm sure the guys will give it some thought: http://www.burgerquest.ca/contact.html

If you haven't had a burger fron the Burger Bus in the S.E. than you haven't had the best. It is by far the best burger in town.

[–]underflux[S] 2 points3 points ago*

Pretty sure they did Rockey's Burger Bus (aka the biggest burger I've ever seen).

Now this is something I can get behind, but they (you?) seriously need RSS from their website.

For now, Twitter added

Ha, not me directly, they eat I post the reviews.

I'll look into an RSS feed though.

its not in calgary but close enough, the rundle lounge in the banff springs hotel has one of the best burgers i have ever had.

another good one (not in the city) is at Lazia in the central city mall (edmonton) bar none one of the best burgers out there.

Some good contenders (in my opinion):

Harveys, Peter's, The Burger Inn, and The Burger Bus.

Burgers at the Fine Diner in Inglewood are absolutely fantastic. I would definitely recommend them to anyone. Plus they fry their fries in duck confit... Mmmm...

Call me crazy, but I find Peter's burgers aren't all that great. If it wasn't for the fries/milkshakes, I would never eat there.

[–]peteng 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

You aren't crazy. Peter's is a very mediocre burger, people just like the thought of the classic "drive-in".

[–]malicestar -1 points0 points ago

It's also the same owners as Boogies.

Peter's burgers are terrible. I don't mind the onion rings and shakes.

They rated Five Guys higher than Alley Burger. Nope nope nope.

[–]myarmhurts 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I think Alley Burger has gone downhill. The last burger I got was so dry I could barely swallow it, there was 1 cheese curd and no sauce. The actual beef burger, same thing, and they forgot half my toppings.

[–]shelfoo 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I agree. I'll go back to Five Guys any time. I've only been to Alley Burger once, so maybe it was just a bad day, but I found the burger itself (ie: the patty) to be super greasy with very little flavour. There are much better burgers out there than what I had at Alley Burger, and Five Guys is one of the places that I would put above Alley Burger.

[–]remykins 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Alley burger must have really gone downhill then. Admittedly I went shortly after they started selling from their truck, and have since moved away and cannot get them anymore, but it stands as one of the best burgers to grace my mouth. Five Guys is good, but couldn't hold a candle to that alley burger I had...

[–]Epledryyk 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I had an alley burger last winter, before the truck version was allowed and it was good but meh. I mean, the experience was great; waiting in the Cow-town cold and then finally getting that little pocket of delicious warmth was magical and everything, but all in all, if I could snap my fingers and get one or the other I'd probably choose Five Guys.

Here you go guys....

http://www.ffwdweekly.com/article/life-style/food/burger-hunt-the-recap-6812/

Reviews of 89 different burgers in Calgary.

[–]malicestar 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Sadly that's just a link to the recap, which is woefully short. Where's the chart? Where's the breakdown? Where's the winner? The recap only lists 20 restaurants, and amongst those are McDonalds and Montana's. I'm a much bigger fan of these new guys method and metrics.

[–]swordgeek 0 points1 point ago

There's no real chart, but there was an entire year of articles which are worth reading.

Why hasn't anyone mentioned Dairy Lane? I took my Calgary-skeptical boyfriend there when he was visiting me, and he pretty much melted when he bit into the classic beef burger.

They're currently tied for 9th place. http://burgerquest.com/scoreboard/
