Wow! Amazing write up and transformation, thank you for sharing. This should help motivate a lot of people. You look much younger with the weight gone, I bet you feel amazing in comparison to a year ago, with added confidence. Keep it up, you could start adding muscle and bulking very soon!!

I do feel much more healthy. But besides the pictures. When I look down its hard to notice a difference. Is weird.

Have you seen the posts on fittit where really muscular dudes and ladies post pictures of themselves from their "looking down angle"? It's really interesting and inspiring. Super jacked dudes and beautiful women will post the pictures and you can't tell they are jacked until they post the picture of their front.

[–]JPugzz 1 point2 points ago

She was very negative about my weight loss as well. She did not want to lose weight so she made me feel guilty the entire time like I was embarrassing her. But I used it as more motivation to keep going. Its hard to hear negative things from someone you care about but you can either let it beat you into submission or say FUCK IT and push harder.

I've been trying to make the last 2% drop to 10% BF for about a month. I just can't hold the discipline with my diet to do it. This guy is so fuckin awesome he makes me feel bad about myself.

[–]eightnine22 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Don't feel bad, each percentage drop below 15% BF is increasing more difficult. Our evolutionary heritage makes us hold onto the "last resort" or stingy fat with great affinity. I'm also in the same process and found that "Leangains" has made it much easier to accomplish!

[–]inferior_troll 58 points59 points ago

Wow your achievement was throughly impressive without the WIFE being a negative influence thing. Now it is 10x more impressive. You have a dedication of a thousand suns. I have no idea about your feelings but I think it would suck to have a spouse that is against bettering yourself for selfish reasons...

[–]Serenity--Now[S] 39 points40 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Thanks. Yeah it was very rough. I really tried hard to just accept it and even ignore her bullshit and was even willing to stay with her but she decided to leave me. So /shrug I find it hard to be really upset about it.

I mean she likely should of left me when i was 330 pounds if she really wanted to leave me having no chance with the opposite sex.

You're looking great by the way. Keep it up! You'll make some lucky lady very happy someday!

Just out of curiosity, why do you think she was negative about your weight loss? The only reason that makes sense to me is that she is overweight and sort of feels guilty/jealous that you're making the effort and she doesn't want to/think she can, so she would try to stop you from doing so.

[–]Rhynovirus 1 point2 points ago

[–]Serenity--Now[S] 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

See what confuses me about the wife's crap was that she fell in love with me and stayed with me while I was 300lbs+? I mean the whole thing confused me.

You would think it would be the opposite right? Thats why I was willing to stay. She loved me when I was a fat tub of goo but now that I am in shape she doesnt?

I have a feeling its was more of a preemptive strike. "I better leave him before he leaves me" type of deal?

I hope I can keep this motivation to finish what I have started. But when you get everyone around you saying "you look great and do not need to lose any more weight". I get over satisfied and start slacking.

[–]Dryle 15 points16 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

If I can just chime in with my two cents: You don't have to bulk nor cut in terms of diet providing you're eating as healthy as you are right now. The stage you're at now, looking proper fit, is the ideal moment to overhaul your workouts and focus on more strength-oriented training. Trade some cardio for weights, turn the little excess fat you have left into muscle in a transformation-like fashion. Your mind is probably stuffed with fitness-expertise knowledge that you've accumulated along the way, so this might sound repeated. Instead of cutting down to the tissue and packing muscles from there, let the two meet on the middle. I'm not implying that you ought to become a bodybuilder or anything, but you're at the perfect point for something like that.

Also, I'm sure you've heard this a million times already, but one can't get enough praise I guess: You look fantastic. I hope you savor the pride of having made such a huge accomplishment. People can be as pride of you as they like, but you should be more proud than anyone else! Congratulations!

[–]Serenity--Now[S] 15 points16 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

This is def good advice and pretty much what I am thinking. Just I feel a little "thick". Like I want to be a little less top heavy on the chest/gut. I really have cut back on cardio A LOT :). I just do not enjoy it as much as strength training. So hopefully that will show in the next few months. I will keep everyone updated when I can actually see my chest/arm/stomach muscles.

[–]Dryle 6 points7 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

You're an inspiration to many. I'm not obese, but then again I've had the benefit of a young age (20 now) and decent metabolism. I'm an archtype computer enthusiast and sit on my arse a lot, though. I'm 6'2" and weigh roughly 210 pounds. I have a bad habit of going hard for a few months, getting back some decent aesthetics, then pigging out and having to start over. I'm an absolute mess at maintaining a healthy lifestyle and regular cardio. One thing, however, is that when I get to the point where my fat levels rise above what I want them to be, strength training 3-4 days a week and some not-to-strenuous cardio 3-4 days a week often provides an incredible boost to both mental and physical health. You feel stronger, whilst gradually hitting respectable bodyfat/muscle levels. In my opinion, it's so much more rewarding to not just get lean, but feel like you could add all the fat you shave off to the resistance of your next workout.

Nonetheless, actually working up the mentality to keep at it for as long and as well as you have is a much bigger feat than being able to lift this and that and looking good. The psychological aspect is such a massive part of the effort. While your mind gets you started, plugging out your mind and having your body do all the hard labor is pretty much the rest of it.

[–]k-dingo 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

If you want to make cardio more, erm, interesting (and effective for fat loss), try HIIT (high intensity interval training). I'm a fan of Tabata ergs (rowing machine). It's just a 4 minute workout (he says with an evil grin).

20s effort. 10s recovery. Repeat 8 times. Curse my name after you're done heaving your lungs out on the floor.

Barbell (or dumbbell/kettlebell) complexes are another great ass-kicker. Try Bear Complex WODs: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WOP9J7QPwI

I also try to get in a longish hike, bike ride, row, whatever, on weekends. Generally at least 2 and up to 6 hours. Lower intensity, but constant movement. Good for the head and soul as well as the body.

fat doesn't turn into muscle. sorry, tired of that myth.

[–]xyr0x 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

No one really... 'needs' to, but I'll put it this way, you could definitively lose more. No offense to you of course, amazing change you've accomplished so far but keep at it. Maybe motivation could be if you stop weight could start coming back? I mean you want to continue to work out and eat healthy regardless to keep it away:) I hope you do well, I've only turned 20 years old recently and I'm sure you've got more wisdom than I, I know you can do it.

[–]escapeartist 1 point2 points ago

That's only a couple of months away. Now is the time to research and put together your program!

[–]k-dingo 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

A fair amount of that flab is loose skin. It should resolve somewhat over the next 12-24 months.

You don't give your age, but I'd guess 30-somthing. If you want to add muscle, you've almost certainly got a lot of potential. I'd suggest a reasonably lean bulk, particularly if you're planning on staying natural. Overfeeding doesn't seem to help my mass gains much, and the flab is annoying (I did a 2.5 month 12# gain this winter, now slowly trying to cut).

My experiences starting weights at 37, now 44.

[–]KsmashMcPain 13 points14 points ago

This is amazing, if overweight people realized what a difference cutting out sugary drinks made the world would be a better place. I lost 20lbs by changing nothing in my diet apart from cutting out fizzy drinks.

Keep it up, you legend!

You can either accept that your mid section is going to look weird for a little while but look and feel healthy.

Or give up get fat and look and feel like shit.

A long time ago I came to to conclusion I would rather have the first option. The way i see those stretch marks is that they are my badges of honor. I fucking earned those fucking things. Sure they arent going to get you to that AXE body spray commerical youve always wanted but fuck it. Hide them long enough for your skin to bounce back and enjoy life!

dude, just do it. I'll post up one of my lower moments of physical health, with a recent shot.

EDIT; Not going to post and make a whole new thread for before/after's. This is to reinforce Serenity--Now's comment. It's hard work but totally worth it! Live longer, do more, feel good about yourself! I'm 17 in this photo, a plump baby. I'm guessing I creeped up to 250lbs then. When I turned 21, and graduated college, I didn't want to continue the way I was. A year and just a few minutes ago, this is me, currently. Last I checked, I'm now sub 180lbs. Still have a ways to go, but it's a lifestyle change. Not a short term fix. :D

(I have had quite a few slip ups the last 2 months that had me yo-yoing back and forth between 195 and 210. The problem is that when you start to like the way you look you get less concerned with eating right and maintaining a rigid workout schedule.

This is so me. Once I hit 190 it was like ... well, time to bulk. I've been making good strength gains but the day is coming fast where I hit my goals and I have to start cutting again and I'm not looking forward to it.

I love reading posts like this. Fantastic job man this is so refreshing to read after listening to people complain all the time about how it is impossible to lose weight. Clearly with proper motivation you managed to do it. I also like how you found productive methods of exercise to begin losing weight. I feel this is important because from my understandingany unsuccessful losers simply dislike exercise ( I'm sure I would too if I wad 100lbs overweight).

Post again with future goals and progress, you look great!

Sweet jeebus! You lost one of me. Congrats!

TBH, I have met someone who lost as much as you have... he made me ride on his back to illustrate how much extra weight he was carrying around every single day... it was an entire person... it was a pretty amazing thing to visually experience losing an entire person worth of weight.

You should feel friggin amazingly proud! I have lost 23 pounds in the past while and I feel good, I could imagine how you feel!

How many pants sizes did you go down?

I discovered that I really enjoyed tasks that doubled as exercise and something else productive.

Yes! One of the best ways to do this IMO is cycle to work every day. If you live within 10 mile of work then you can cycle. Some people even cycle further than this every day. I used to do 7 miles each way to school when I was 16.

It's a lot better if you have showers/changing facilities at work, of course, because then you can safely sweat a bit in the morning.

God damn, man. You look great. I'm trying to do what you did, and I think I'm doing alright so far.

I started out this year at around 325 lbs, I'm sitting at 285 lbs right now, working my way down. I didn't diet at all for the first two or three months, but I've started eating less and less and my weight started plummeting. Just eating a few small meals is making all the difference.

I started with the couch to 5k program and then just kept going from there. Now I'm running for around an hour instead of the twenty or so minutes you end the program on. Feels so good.

I just want to say congratulations and good job! You're a big inspiration.

I am not heavy -- at all -- but I have NO stamina, no endurance, no motivation, no strength, eat terrible foods or crazy sporadic and am very lazy. I just happen to have a terribly quick metabolism. :/

You taking that motivation and using it is very awesome and inspiring. Thank you and good luck!

Edit: Also, you look great. :)

WAY TO GO! thats so awesome. Mind if i ask your age? I'm just happy that your skin is still elastic and you don't have those hanging pouches like some who lose that much weight. So anytime you feel shitty you can always say, "hey, at least i don't have skin pouches like a kangaroo!"

Or maybe that would make you feel worse, because you secretly want to be a kangaroo. Either way, great job.

My uncle was the same height as you and hit the mid 300's in his 30's and went the opposite way from you. We lost him this fall, due to an amalgamation of things that would have been treatable if not for his weight (He was well over 400). You have done so much for your life and your future. Please value it and live well. Congrats.

I'm subscribed to this subreddit as I want to get off my ass and do something, but lack the motivation to stick with anything more than a couple of weeks. In my last burst of workouts I dropped 20 pounds and actually stuck with it for just over a month, but as usual I lapsed (I sound like an addict) and am quickly gained the weight back. Long story short, I just wanted to let you know that this post is inspirational and I'm both amazed and extremely proud of you. Awesome fucking job! I don't know if this will translate into anything for me, but I'm proud for you. Keep it up!

Perhaps try joining http://www.reddit.com/r/loseit for more focused weight loss motivation as opposed to strength training emphasis found in /r/fitness!

20 pound weight loss shows that you're capable of doing it. All that's left is the mental strength to stick with the program and see it through to the end (of your goals).

Good luck my friend :)

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Thank you for posting this. I had a similar journey, did the same things you did, and lost approximately the same amount of weight. Unfortunately, I was part of the 50-60% who gained it back (340lb to 220lb).

It has been a year or so since I have gained my weight back and I cannot find the motivation to try again, until now. I am very proud of you, and you have inspired me to wipe the dirt off, wipe the blood from lip with my sleeve, smile a devilish grin, and hit back hard. I will use this post as my guide. I am going to post in it my Facebook as an inspiration to other people.

I commit to Reddit now. I will start again, I will post progress pics, and in a year from now, I will respond.
