I got a Razer Deathadder a while ago when I wanted to get serious in SC2 and move up the ladder because the DPI on my former mouse was ridiculously low. I'm pretty convinced that it is one of the best mice (mouses?) out there and is definitely my favorite mouse of all time.

It's really simple: two buttons next to where the thumb rests, left and right click buttons, and center scroll wheel. It feels really fucking nice on your hand and for anyone looking for a traditional mouse with not a lot of extra shinanigans on it I highly recommend it. After getting it I found out that a lot of pro gamers have Razer Deathadders and now I can really see why - it just feels so damn good!

This. Tempted to use one button for Dodge and the other for either my Push-To-Talk or perhaps my heal.

I personally like binding push to clicking the mouse wheel. It feels quite nice there.

I like it on the nearer thumb button. I have the other one set to skill 1. Works well.

Razer gear can seem a bit overpriced sometimes, but I'm very happy with my Deathadder.

My brother uses the Naga with Rift, as do a lot of his guildies, and he says it's really great for their purposes.

The argument for the Naga is mostly for MMO's. I can't see myself liking it for anything else, but for hardcore MMO players, it seems the obvious choice.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

It's pretty great for all types of games, honestly. I use it in basically every game/genre I play, from MMOs to regular RPGs, FPS games and Diablo-like ARPGs.

Basically any game that maps something useful to the number row will work right out of the box perfectly with the Naga, and most games have something you want to map to the buttons if they don't use the number row.

When I got it I thought it would only be useful for MMOs, but I've found it to be just as good for FPS games and other types of games as well.

[–]hefnetefne 1 point2 points ago

I find it great in FPSs, too. I don't have to take a finger off of my movement keys in order to switch weapons.

That's what I've found as well. It's really great for L4D2 and the first game I used it for was Global Agenda. It's awesome in Skyrim too.

There's other reasons I got mine as well (I was going for a certain aesthetic with my machine and peripherals), and initially I wasn't convinced the grid buttons would be all that great, but they've definitely proven out through hundreds of hours in many different games. I honestly thought it seemed a bit gimmicky when I first saw it and got it, but it works damned fine.

I have this mouse and can affirm ROOTderp's statement. It is a great mouse if you are on a lower budget and don't need so many extra buttons. I bought mine for LoL and it improved my timing and such a great deal. It felt really good for the 40+ hours I have put into GW2 as well.

And to anyone who, for whatever reason, dislikes the deathadder i can recommend the Razer Imperator.

Actually I'm just kind of a Razer Fanboy (Black Widow, Imperator, Sphex, Charcharias, and there's probably more to come)

[–]ieatrox 1 point2 points ago

+1 imperator

Owned boomslang, copperheads (3), death adder, lachesis, mamba, orochi, tarantula, barracuda headphones and sound card. Every time I upgrade I give away a great mouse to a friend who doeesn't have a razer yet. I've converted pretty well everyone.

My current though, and all time fave is the imperator. It's a lot like the death adder, but just a little bit better.

I still rock the logtech mx511 from 2006 XD, but hey I once it gets pass 3000 dpi I don't think it really makes much differences, since its not really a fps, just my opinion

Try the Tiamat. Then you find out how crappy the microphone is. I've used a $10 microphone for nearly a decade and it sounds way better.

Try the Lycosa. Then you find out it breaks in less than a month, while my $10 keyboard the Lycosa replaced still works to this day ever since 6 years ago. Only reason I replaced it was due to soda spillage, but it still works.

Try the Black Widow. Then you find out there's better mechanical keyboards for cheaper or equivalent price. It's considered one of the lowest quality mechanical keyboard. Ultimate Black Widow is no better.

Try the Mamba. Then when you do low-sense gaming and find out when you pick up the mouse, it becomes unresponsive as soon as you lay it on the mouse pad until a second or two later. Apparently, this also happens on the Imperator.

Oh don't forget their $2800 gaming laptop that should be worth less than $1500 and that ridiculous looking thing called "Project Fiona".

Their motto should be "High Price, Low Quality".

Don't get me wrong, they have some decent or good ones. Deathadder and Naga are apparently the two mice that are fairly consistent in quality. The Carcharias is actually a decent headset for the price, with a fairly good microphone (way better than the more expensive Tiamat). I've used the Exactmat, and it was one of the better mouse pads I've used. So yes, they have their gems, but its a complete mixed bag.

[–]Xeeker 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Dude. I already did use an USB microphone because you are totally right about the microphone quality of the charcharias. the main thing that I love about this headset, and why i still use it, is that you can wear it for endless hours without your jaw, your ears or your head starting to hurt. Usually, the headsets I tried hart some pressure point somewhere that would start to hurt after a few hours.

About the Keyboard: I have yet to see. I haven't had it for long. Maybe you're right (but i always have my trusty, age old, original G15 as a replacement)

I have had no problems whatsoever with the mouse though, which i had since last summer and used every day for hours.

and you're totally right about their laptop, I would never buy that shit.

oh and concerning the mousepad, I can still recommend the Sphex. It's kind of like a sticker and about as thick as a piece of paper. It's awesome. I also have a Steelseries one though just in case.

DeathAdders have been a popular mouse for some time now. It's great for claw grip. If you palm your mouse check out the Mx518

[–]bI1tz 2 points3 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

..............the DeathAdder is advertised as a palm grip mouse and I palm mine. I've used both and both are more comfortable with palm grip whereas claw grip is more common among the non-gaming mice as their form is usually smaller.

edit: Apparently now it's advertised as a claw grip mouse. IDK why, the Deathadder and the Mamba have identical size.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

That's strange... the DeathAdder fits the palm grip absolutely perfectly. I'd think of something like the Naga being advertised as a Claw grip mouse, however.

[–]zZ1ggY 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Be wary. Palm literally means full palm. You are probably suggesting a half-claw. Yes your palm is still on the mouse but your fingers are risen in the air.

Palm means your whole finger and palm is touching. It can be a bit uncomfortable on the deathadder because of it's more straight design (instead of a huge hump). But it feels fantastic for clawing.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Are we using the same mouse? The DeathAdder fits my hand perfectly with the palm grip. Yes, full palm.. my fingers are not risen in the air.

The mouse is a few years old, did they come out with a new model? There is most definitely a hump in the middle of the DA, it isn't a straight design.

[–]zZ1ggY 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I said more straight design ;). I'm sure your preference is just fine for the DeathAdder. We all have different hands after all.

The most noticeable claw-like feature is how the left and right mouse buttons are designed. They almost curve upward and feel very solid when pressing down on them from an angle with the tips of your fingers. The Mx518 has flat buttons that feel solid when your entire finger is along the button.

And yes, they came out with a new model. I don't know much about it. They probably didn't change the design, but rather, the laser technology. But that's just a guess.

If you need more than that, go for the gigabyte m8000x. I got one mostly for guild wars two, and it has the standard two back and forward buttons like the death adder, but the scroll wheel also rocks from left to right, which gives you two more buttons that are not in the way at all. Also, it has a handy program to switch up hot keys, and the profile change button changes the color of the lights, so you can know which one you're using. Finally, if you want it to be heavier or lighter, there are weights you can set in it to change that.

[–]zZ1ggY 0 points1 point ago

Just to clarify for everyone. DPI does not determine how good your mouse is. All it does is count the dots per inch and moves accordingly.

It's basically a hard coded sensitivity option.800dpi over 400 will double your sensitivity. That is all.

I grabbed myself a Razer Naga Epic, just 1 hour before the last BWE. Got lucky and got it for $30 cheaper than it should have been.

Was quite the right decision IMO. Some people find it uncomfortable, but I seem to be able to navigate all 17 keys just fine.

[–]lightow[S] 0 points1 point ago

Glad to hear since I ordered mine this morning.

One question if I may. Did you end up binding your dodge key to the naga and if so, how well did it work for you?

[–]MetalWing 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I do have it bound to key 5 on my Naga, but I found myself double tapping WASD to dodge more often than using the Naga bind.

Getting a mouse like Razer Naga Epic is quite a new experience for me, so I haven't really taken advantage of all the keys and macros that I could. I did bind a weapon swap button though =) that was quite useful!

[–]lightow[S] 0 points1 point ago

I bought the Naga Epic a while back and am still adjusting to it. It is not something you will pick up right away and be comfortable with. I ended up using the smallest size side attachment and trying to learn a couple buttons at a time.

[–]MetalWing 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I am using the medium size adjustment because of the following reasons:

Small - Too small - My pink has no spot and just drags on the mousepad lol!

Medium - Allows me to grip a mouse in such a way that my pink isn't really dragging on the table, but is pressed against the side of the mouse. If need be I could lift the mouse up.

Large - I swear... its comfy, but I couldn't lift my mouse off the table if my hand is on it.

I'll stick with my G700&G13 all the buttons I need and customized. But that is a good price for the naga. I didn't like how it felt in my hand. I know my friend who has it said it took him a few hrs to get use to the buttons and the 10-12 buttons were a little hard to reach, but he loves it.

To each their own. I'm just a logitech fanboy, hasnt failed me yet.

[–]Killersnake 3 points4 points ago

The G700 is just perfect for the class specific skills F1 through F4.

I played in the beta as an Elementalist and that was just awesome.

[–]Xaielao 1 point2 points ago*

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Same here, I knew I'd want a programmable mouse with lots of accessable buttons for Elementalist. I however don't like Razer mice because many don't fit my hand right and I find them rather overpriced.

I'm a long time logitech fan (my G19 keyboard has lasted me years now and still works perfectly), but my budget wasn't quite so high this month for a G700 so I grabbed a G300. Similar to the G700 in design, but not Laser but still high DPI and fully programmable. I've already got my GW2 layout set up with F1-F4 on the 4 'side' buttons and I'm ready to go!

[–]Kinkan83Lazarus Sin Claire 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yup that's where I have my F1-F4 keys. Was helpful to just rotate my thumb around, hit all 4 on my guardian as an " oh shnit!" button. But for engineer and ele they will be priceless to not have to worry about removing my left hand from it's position.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Same here... Razer makes pretty cheap products for a pretty high price. Bought 3 of their "things" in the past and all broke within 3 months. Even the once I got in return broke in no time... Heard it is a little bit better with the Naga but for me its too late.

[–]lightow[S] 1 point2 points ago

Hey that's great. Whatever works best for you in the long run. Many have even said it's better than the newer hex model. I just ordered mine since I know I'll be using it for several games.

I have both the G700 and the Naga Epic. They are both good mice, but I prefer the G700 because it has a much better button layout (in my opinion).

Since you are a logitech fan boy, have you used the G930 wireless 7.1 headset? I have used several different headsets and this one is by far my favorite headset ever. It sounds phenomenal, AND its wireless. The only downside is that people on vent/ts/mumble might get creeped out if you talk to them while you're in the bathroom.

I wouldn't trade my naga for anything. I can't actually play MMOs without it now. Being able to use your left hand solely for movement/strafing is amazing. You'll get used to the button placement but it takes practice. My hands are huge (I'm 6'6") and I can still hit all the buttons easily now and reliably. I can't imagine trying to pvp without it.

[–]tevoul 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I opted to get the logitech g13 instead - by condensing all the movement to your thumb on an analog stick you get your entire left hand for hotkeys.

It also takes a little getting used to (less if you also play consoles) but this has the added benefit of having an analog stick for movement instead of just a digital d-pad. I've only had it for a week and it already feels very natural to me.

As a side note, I tried both the G13 and the Razer Nostromo and found I liked the G13 more in basically every way. The keys on the G13 are more comfortable to me (but I have giant hands so that may not be true for everyone), and the analog stick is a thousand times better for movement than the Nostromo's dpad. The software for the G13 is also better, it has separate profiles for each game that can be set to run automatically with the .exe so you do all your bindings separate from the game itself, not forcing you to unbind the normal keyboard if you decide you want to use it later (and also no worrying about "will this game detect the analog stick?" - even if it can't the Logitech software can emulate WASD movement with the analog stick quite well).

[–]diggs747 11 points12 points ago

I'd recommend the Logitech g500 or the newer wireless version. Great brand, comfortable mouse for all types of gaming/general use. Good software packaged with it too allowing you to easily program macro's and bind keys and set game profiles. Dear god I sound like I work for them.

wireless? I'll admit, it's been a while since I've used one, but aren't they total shit for gaming? Like, huge cursor lag? correct me if I'm wrong, cause I've just been completely writing them off.

[–]Indoorsman 9 points10 points ago

You don't want wireless for anything competitive, the lag is slight, but it's noticeable, especially in a FPS.

ok, good. glad i'm not crazy, then. optical, laser, or trackball preferred?

[–]MchangerShortbow - Dagger Dagger 5 points6 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Definetly LASER. Also you don't need a super high DPI, its not like you will ever need 1200 DPI. 800 DPI is a good number for your mouse, then adjust the sensetivity, first in windows (also for goodsake, turn off mouse acceleration) and then ingame.

[–]aonxe 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Also you don't need a super high DPI, its not like you will ever need 1200 DPI. 800 DPI is a good number for your mouse, then adjust the sensetivity, first in windows

This is actually wrong. You do need a mouse with a high DPI if you want to reliably increase the sensitivity.

If you use the Windows / In-game sensitivity adjustments then you are adding mouse cursor movement that isn't actually happening which makes your mouse movement unpredictable.

Here's a vide for reference.

If you want to increase the sensitivity, increase the DPI on the mouse. Lastly, when playing at large resolutions you need a large DPI to keep your mouse movements down so you aren't throwing the mouse around on the desk to go from the left to the right of the screen.

[–]MchangerShortbow - Dagger Dagger 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Point taken, but I am looking at the mouse for a FPS stand-point. I guess for MMO's its different... Seeing as you should have a lower sensitivity, for more accuracy, its makes no sense to use a high DPI.

Concerning desk space... you are playing a game. Not browsing the net. You should have a big enough mouse pad AND desk.

[–]Mmm_Creepers 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

its not like you will ever need 1200 DPI

:(

I default use 1800 DPI, my one setting up from this is 2800 which I rarely use... I should consider setting it down to a less steep jump.

[–]MchangerShortbow - Dagger Dagger 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I've had wireless mice before for raiding, where you've been playing 8 hours or more before a raid, they like to cut out right in the middle of a fight, which has happened more than once. I have the Razer Naga atm and it's amazing, means you haven't got to do finger olympics with 30 different keybindings.

[–]sgpigeon 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The wireless g700 is amazing. If for some reason you do run out of battery life, you just plug it in and keep going. You can adjust the sensor for longer battery or performance but playing an mmo on longest battery I get no noticeable lag. For an fps you just tweak it for performance and you are set. I like the key setup more than the naga.

[–]BruceCLin 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Typically you'd be right, but not with the G700. I did a through research for a gaming wireless mouse for living room gaming. The G700 is a true dual mode wireless mouse. A lot of wireless mouse that has usb connection only use it for charging. G700 change to true wired mode on usb cable. It has 1ms response time in both wired and wireless mode which results in no lag in either mode. I can asure you that it will have no lag based one my two years use of it on FPS from 8 feet away.

The new Logitech G700 is what I brought for GW2 after alot of research.

I also saw this on /r/GameDeals and thought about buying it just for this game. I did notice that it's a "factory recertified" mouse, though. Paying $5 more for the one in the store that you linked might be worth it if you're paranoid about refurbished items.

[–]squidboots 6 points7 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

In any given batch of electronics produced, there are bound to be some that fail in some way or are returned by the customer for whatever reason. When factory re-certified, a technician trained and employed by the manufacturer (with a vested interest in keeping the name the manufacturer from being sullied by shoddy repairs) gives the entire device a good once-over to determine what, if anything, is wrong with it, and repair it as needed. Then it is tested again to ensure that it is in good working order.

If you think about it, unless the product is victim to poor engineering from the get-go, you're more likely to encounter a product failure with a new device than with a re-certified device. Why? Because when new devices are produced, a small subset of the batch is tested by QC then the batch is okayed. That new device you purchase has, in all likelihood, never been tested by a technician. It will probably work without any incident, but there's always that 2% or whatever the standing failure rate is. A re-certified device, however, has been personally tested at least twice by someone whose only job is to make sure that it's in good, working order.

I think factory refurbs (again, barring devices that have a history of poor engineering and/or manufacturing like the original Xbox 360) are the best kept secret in electronics.

[–]IM_THE_DECOY 2 points3 points ago*

I think some of you that are suggesting other mice are maybe missing the point of a Naga.

The whole point of a Naga is to give your right thumb easy access to your number keys. This allows you to keep your left hand on WASD and not have to take your fingers off (and switch to mouse moving or stop moving all together) to hit your number keys to activate your skills. With the Naga, all your fingers are dedicated to a very small area that allows you to access everything you need to access without ever having to move and momentarily lose access to anything.

I realize some people move their character with just the mouse and don't even use WASD to move and just keep their left hand on the number keys, but even with this method you still have to move your left hand up and down the keyboard to access 1-0. And sure, you can use the keypad on the right side of the keyboard... but then you lose access to Shift, Alt, Space, and other usually vital gaming keys.

Sure, there are plenty of good gaming mice out there, and some have just as many buttons as the Naga, but they tend to be kind of a clusterfuck of buttons and require you to move your index and middle finger away from MB1 and MB2 to access some of these extra buttons. The Naga is designed for a specific play style of specific types of games. And it is very very good at what it is designed for.

I wish that was true, my old mx started stuttering and being unresponsive after a year or two due to the cable. I fucking loved that mouse though, so comfortable.

If you still have it, Logitech is awesome about their warranty/replacement policy. I had the exact same thing happen to my MX518; I owned it for about 2 years and had no receipt or anything, but I tried anyway... Logitech had me send them a picture of the mouse, and within a few days there was a brand new G400 on my doorstep, no charge, no nothing.

http://www.logitech.com/en-us/support-downloads/downloads/mice/devices/4259

Click "Contact Us" (you may have to make an account) then tell them what's up and ask if there's anything they can do. You may be surprised. =D

Wow that's awesome, I'm currently using a razer deathadder which is actually pretty similar to the mx518 in its layout, if I can find my old mx I'll definitely try this thanks :)

I can't stand my MX518. I just ordered a Naga and I'm hoping it's better. To me the MX518 is inaccurate as shit, plus the shape of the mouse makes no sense, at least for my hands. It's this big elongated brick that has just never felt comfortable, at all.

[–]zZ1ggY 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Mx518 is for a palm grip. DeathAdder and Xai are for claw grips.

You should probably figure out what type of style you use before you go out buying stuff.

[–]Asarael 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Which grip is the Naga for?

[–]WaggleDance 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

That's fair, if I was to make one criticism of that mouse it would be that it's too large for my hands. I've since got a Razer deathadder and it's fantastic, the build quality might be slightly lower but it has a better DPI and it fits my hand more. Plus it has a threaded cable and i'm convinced they're more resilient than the rubber ones.

The G400 is the MX518s official successor, might as well grab that.

[–]xzeinn 0 points1 point ago

I have to disagree with the MX518. Granted, I loved my G5 for shooters. Although my G5 actually started having power issues and would continuously stop working for a couple seconds then come back on; a friend also had the same problem.

G5 was better for shooters than the razer naga due to its feel and weight. What is nice about the naga is the software to customize the crap out of it. Tons of different DPI settings which are nice for shooters, such as on the fly adjusting or you can preset stages with the DPI settings then assign it to two buttons to move up and down. GW2, especially in structured PvP and especially as an Elementalist is extremely fast play with ground targets, so having a naga will give you an advantage over keyboard users for skills. Naga is pretty superior to other mice when it comes to mmorpgs.

[–]MisterButt 0 points1 point ago

I have a 9 year old MX500 that still works fine, except for sometimes "letting go" when I hold down mouse1 or 2. This was fine for most FPS but would have been a pain playing GW2 where I hold down rmb pretty much the whole time. Decided to get an Intellimouse Explorer 3.0 to replace it though, it doesn't have angle snapping and was dirt cheap.

If you play at about 1600x900 resolution or higher then 1600dpi just isn't enough. Instead get the G400. Basically the same mouse but goes up to 3600dpi.

I just got a naga a couple of weeks ago, and the GW2 BWE is the first thing I played with it. Have to say I'm very pleased.

I've been using a mx 518 for the last seven years and while its a great mouse the extra buttons on the naga make things so much easier. Definitely recommended for GW2. I don't know how I played GW1 for all those years without it. I still use the MX 518 for TF2 and Tribes though because of shorter click distance.

I love the Naga to bits. It couldn't play without it, I have everything from SWTOR to Skyrim bound to those keys and couldn't imagine having it any other way.

It's also one of the few gaming mice out there that is perfect for small hands. Mine are tiny, like child-like tiny and this mouse is super comfortable for me.

[–]Cherudim 1 point2 points ago

Razer mice aren't bad they just have a tendency to break and for the same price you can get a better Logitech that will last a long time.

The MX518 is the mouse to get but its a little expensive at around $95

Otherwise the G series mice are great just find one in your price range.

If you want something really cheap the G300 is a good mouse for about 30 bucks just its a tad bit light compared to most out there, its up to you whether thats a good or bad thing.

[–]The_English_Man 0 points1 point ago

I have never felt comfortable using a trackball. I only know one person who does but the reason he still uses them is because he grew up using it.

[–]CheshireSwiftEsa Haen 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Dumb thing for me is that I'm pretty picky about it. Most of them have the ball under your thumb (similar idea to the positioning of the buttons on a Razer Naga) and otherwise replicate the position of buttons on a mouse. The only one I'm comfortable with (which I now wouldn't change from for the world) is a Logitech one with the ball on the right, which I move with middle + index finger, right click with ring finger just next to the ball and left click under the thumb (along with a few other buttons). It actually notably improved my performance in FPS's and RTS's when I started using it years ago and whilst I can still use a mouse it doesn't feel right. It's also really good for 3D modelling and photoshop for the same reason it helps when gaming -- high sensitivity without loss of precision.

[–]SkorneUK 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I've got a G700, been using it for a long time and it performs flawlessly. It's the first mouse I've used that does not lag at all in wireless mode, in fact if I couldn't see the cable I couldn't tell the difference. It easily switches from wired to wireless with just a brief 1-2 second pause.

The 4 thumb buttons are very comfortable to use and easy to locate the correct one every time. The buttons of the left of the main mouse button not quite so comfortable for my hands so I use them for non essential things. It's very customizable too any button can be remapped to anything. Sadly the 5 mouse button hard limit built into windows is still there so you have to rebind some buttons to key presses.

It's not perfect though, the cable it does have is very stiff and has a non standard usb connector on the mouse end (looks like micro usb but it's slightly different). The battery life is not great either - 1-2 days of constant use, but I plug it in every night so no problem there.

I've previously owned Razer Lachesis mouse and Lycosa keyboard. Both developed problems - The Lachesis liked to randomly jump the pointer to bottom left (or look at the sky in FPS) which was extremely annoying and the Lycosa bugged out in a variety of ways including stuck keys, keys not working or the media keys randomly pressing themselves until I unplugged it and plugged it back in. Razer stuff feels cheap and buggy compared to Logitech stuff in my experience, the problems I had were hardware problems that could not be fixed by any drivers or firmware. But then my Logi G110 keyboard felt cheap compared to the CM Storm Trigger mechanical kb I have now. They demonstrated driving 2 cars over this keyboard and it still worked perfectly!

[–]afxtal 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I second the G700. Best mouse I've ever owned.

I plug it in every night so no problem there.

Yeah, I just use the cable as a battery recharger unless I'm going to be doing something other than gaming for an extended period of time.

[–]Skarrix 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Mwell, as regards to durability... I bought my Naga almost 3 years ago and it has yet to give me so much as a day of trouble. And I should note that I use my mouse A LOT. Easily 7+ hours of use every day and it hasn't even started to show any signs of wear. Best mouse I've ever had. Incredibly comfortable for my (smallish) hands.

Many people complain about being unable to reach 10 through 12, but I find it is incredibly easy if you simply use the base of your thumb/joint to hit them. The 4 and the 10 rows both have ridges, so it's very convenient for lining your thumb up with fingertip-to-4 and joint-to-10, which are very easy to feel. 11 especially I tend to keep for big/important abilities, like my Shouts in Skyrim, because it is such a handy button when used in this way, and depresses easily.

Just a point of clarification; yes, the side-panel DOES mirror your 1-12 number keys, but the software that comes with it allows you to change it to whatever you like (wasn't like that originally, but you can now), and of course, like all Razer products you can set up dozens of unique profiles per-game.

I've never owned a gaming mouse, but this makes me want to buy one just for GW2. I don't play many other games, and I don't need anything super-fancy, just something I might bind a few important keys to. Any suggestions?

I love my Naga. It really is a great piece of hardware. I got mine when it first came out for 120 dollars and it was and is worth every penny.

Lots of other mice have extra buttons but the Naga is one of the only ones I have seen that puts 12 extra button in a place you can get to without using a finger that is already dedicated to another button. I mean your thumb isn't doing anything over there, put that fucker to use.

Been using the Naga for upwards of 3 years now and i haven't had any problems, it only took me a few hours to use all the buttons comfortably, and now when i play an MMO i cant even imagine how people use their keyboard for skills. I would definitely recommend this product, especially at $30 discount.

Keep in mind that razer has discontinued the blue version of the naga, so in the coming months, it will become unobtainable.

One last thing to consider, Razer has been making promotional mouses for popular games and movies like swtor, Mass Effect 3, Battlefield 3, SC2, Dragon Age 2, Tron, and Transformers. So there may be a possibility for a GW2 naga or naga hex around the corner.

[–]daydreaming333 1 point2 points ago

I use the naga now and I have no complaints whatsoever. It is comfortable to hold and I love the 12 buttons on the side. With as vital as moving is in GW2, my mouse actually became a big asset during the BWE.

I got the red glowing Razer Naga about a week ago after being a long time Logitech G500 user. I thought the G500 was comfortable until I tried my Naga. This thing is amazing. Can't wait to utilize the buttons in GW2!

I'm seeing a lot of misinformation regarding DPI and other mouse related functions reading through this thread. I suggest reading this article on gaming mice: http://forums.majorleaguegaming.com/topic/165005-fragtalitys-epic-gaming-mice-guide-for-pc-shooting-games/

Obviously tracking performance probably isn't what you're most looking for in a mouse to play GW2 with but it's an interesting read nonetheless.

[–]RobReynalds 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I wish there were more mice like the Naga's. Current mice have way too little buttons for me as i like to have absolutely nothing to take my hands off the movement keys for. That leaves f-keys out and number keys cut my efficiency down compared to mouse buttons.

All I've found so far is the Cyborg Rat mice which are kinda ridiculous and still not enough programmable buttons and the Visiontek xG6 which is what I use. Its old as fuck, looks like its made by fisher price, and has terrible software but if you can get past all that it has 17 buttons.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

I wholeheartedly recommend the Naga (though I have the Naga Epic) for Guild Wars 2 (and pretty much any other game). It's really changed the way I play games now that I don't have to worry about moving my left hand off of the movement keys.

[–]Aneamic 2 points3 points ago

I'm seconding the Naga Hex. Most comfortable mouse I've ever used.

I do recommend that you try it before you buy it though if you can. Your hands need to be the right size for it. Same goes for any of these gaming mice, really.

[–]contra31Fugue Phrygia 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I found just the opposite. It only took me a few hours to learn how to use GW1's skills with the Naga. It also comes with training stickers to help you learn how to find the buttons, but I took them off pretty quickly because I didn't need them. I highly recommend the Razer Naga for GW2.

[–]twonkythechicken 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I found the opposite, when I used one for only an hour I was already missing it.

Although I have heard that people with big hands have trouble reaching some of the lower buttons

[–]MisterFlames 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I'm sure, the Hex is a good option, but since I have my own logic for the naga (1,2,3 = utility skills, 5,8,11 = autorun, push-to-talk, quick turn), I will stay with my naga.

[–]Indoorsman 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

With a few hours of practice, which with the right game can be fun, you learn them pretty well. The naga is amazing for MMOs, GW2 won't need a ton of hotkeys but being able to reach 6-0 without leaving your base keys is nice, it kicks ass in Starcraft 2, and you can bind a functions of other programs to the keys and speed up tool and function swapping. Even with big fingers it isn't too bad, but if you're going to try it Op do so from a place with a good full return policy, Such as Fry's.

Yeah, I had a Corsair M90 too, but sent it back. The software wasn't great, but could be improved. However, the hardware also bothered me in that the left/right clicks were far too easy to activate, and the side buttons were far too hard to activate.

I have an MMO7 coming tomorrow I'm hoping will finally be as near as perfect a mouse as I can get. All the adjustments on it make it seem promising.

I'm currently using a Steelseries Cataclysm mouse, which has useful button placement, but it's just too big in my hand to use comfortably for long durations. It just doesn't fit comfortably and I find myself adjusting hand position a lot on it.

Would you say the original Naga is better than the Naga Hex?

[–]JakesaltzDoctor Cats (Ehmry Bay) 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Depends on your taste/hand size. The main complaint about the original is that 10-12 are basically unusable. The hex buttons are larger, and have a spot in the center that acts as "home base" for your thumb. Unless you need the extra 3-6 buttons, most prefer the hex. But the hex is more expensive.

[–]seffers 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I found that 10-12 were perfect for mounts and teleports in MMOs. Something you didn't use very often, but were nice to have keybound. The buttons next to left click were mega useless though.

[–]SlashkunGandara 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Its not too bad, im sure a cotton bud, 30min and some WD40 would do the job :)

Still its worth it for the convenience of the button arrangement as i find the button arrangement on the naga terrible and when i was using one i had to constantly look at my mouse to see what button i was pressing meanwhile on the MMO7 they are really nicely laid out and the software to program it all is a breeze to use.

Still each to their own :P

I use my mouse with a left hand so I can't use 99% of the gaming mice on the market which is a pain. However in the past when used I've not found Razer products to be very durable. I've had a keyboard and mouse from them and the keyboard intermittently then permanently stopped typing 3 characters and the mousewheel went in the mouse soon after at around 9 months of usage. I would say its decent mileage for the sheer amount I used it but to be honest if you advertise your stuff as gamer stuff then I expect it to take a beating and from investigating I didn't seem to be the only one having frequent problems with razer.

In the end I normally have to setting with an ambidextrous mouse since all left handed ones I've found are terrible.

Currently use a Roccat Kova http://www.roccat.org/Products/Gaming-Mice/ROCCAT-Kova/ which isn't the most confortable thing in the world but it does job, I bought this to replace my Razer Lachesis because the mouse 3 stopped working.

In the end I only mapped 1 button to my mouse and it was my vent press to talk button XD, managed to get the rest on my keyboard.

I am still content with using my MX Revolution mouse despite it being older.

I highly recommend the Cyborg Rat 9

http://www.amazon.com/Cyborg-R-A-T-Wireless-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B003CP0BHW

It has lots of programmables and super fast response time for a wireless but it also has two things that are great for MMOs:

  1. Most of the surfaces of the mouse can be adjusted to ergonomically custom fit your hand, and

2, It has a little shelf on the left side to rest your thumb.

We all play these games in batches too long to avoid carpal tunnel without a great mouse. I think it's well worth the money to get the maximum comfort.

Razer products have been nothing but trashy products for me and the one other person I've known who has owned them. Maybe we are two coincidental and isolated cases, but my mouse (after about 3 years) has started randomly double-clicking whenever I click. My keyboard keys stop working randomly and force a reboot (this happens about once a month, so not a huge deal overall) and the lights on the keyboard will and will not work fairly frequently (according to google this is a fairly common problem).. I would advice against Razer.

I've had an MX518 for many many years. It's moved cross country more than once, I've slammed it down out of anger more times than I can count.. I use it at work and at home (same one), it's survived a really pissed off (now ex) girlfriend.. Go with a Logitech.

I have a Lachesis right now, but I need to get a new one, this one doesn't always work on start up ( I guess a 7 second boot time is too fast?). I've been looking at getting a R.A.T. 7 or 9 if I want to shell out the cash and probably a secondary keypad for my left hand if I get back into HC gaming.

I had got an email from the raptr game service a few weeks ago that gave me like 30% off any Logitech g series product so I grabbed the g700 mouse and I love it, 4 easy to hit thumb buttons, 3 near the index finger left click and one behind the mouse wheel which if prefect for an "oh shit" macro. Upgraded from a g500.

I tried it and it did not feel right sitting in my hand. For past several years I have been using MS Sidewinder and it has been amazing. Definitely worth checking out if Naga is not working well for you.

razer nostromo and razer mamba is my setup, i dont have a nice keyboard so the nostromo is very nice to have. Some people complain and say that the mamba is a waste for what you get. That may be true but it was a gift. Also I have had no issues with the wireless giving way and have never run out of charge in an unfashionable timing.

Here is my expierence with the Naga I loved it however I have large hands and I had some issue with the farthest back two rows of buttons. This basically caused me to only use the front rows, with the ocasional misclick due to my giant thumbs.

A month ago I purchased a Naga Hex. Yeah I quickly passed my original Naga off to my son as I am now in love with the Hex. 6 Easy to press buttons no misclicks. I would caution people until you get used to it the posibility of moving your mouse and clicking a button by mistake is pretty high.

My normal MMO loadout is a Belkin N52 and the Naga Hex. I am considering a swap to the Logitech G13 game pad instead of the N52.

I've had the same Logitech G5 for 8(ish) years and due to it's apparent invincibility, I will be using that until the mouse is no longer how we interact with computers.

I need a new gaming mouse, the one I have it clunky and large and although it does have many useful buttons it is far too big for my small hands, they need to make smaller gaming mice for girls darn it.

You may want to take a look at the CM Storm Quickfire ,Trigger or Quickfire Pro their made by the same plant that makes Filco. Also there's the Corsair k60 and k90, but their only partial mechanical boards. And for rubberdome boards maybe the sidewinder x4. However don't buy a Black Widow they have awful quality control just like Qtan and Xarmor. Also say away from overpriced rubberdome boards like the the g19 they give you nothing extra but eye candy. If you need more info I suggest taking a look at Geekhack or OCN.

Edit Reread my post and noticed a mistake only the Quickfire is made by the same factory as Flico the other two are made elsewhere I believe.

If you want a very cheap mouse, A4tech 710BH is a very good choice, i actually like it more than my friend's MX518 for some reason.

Every button is customizable with the software you get with it.

I've had terrible luck with Razer products, for some reason. Bought a mouse from them several years ago, and it died on me within a few months. Out of the box, I had to fiddle with the USB cable to get it to work at all.

Later, I bought their Chimaera headset, and the bloody thing died within 6 months. So Razer eventually replaced it. Got the new one, tried plugging it into my PC since it was supposedly compatible. Whisper quiet sound, could barely hear it.

So by no means a representative sample, but I just ... ugh. I still with Logitech, thanks. I'm actually looking at the G700 since I prefer wireless mice.

I use a Microsoft Sidewinder, because among other reasons(like it being awesome) it fits my hand better than any other mouse I've used because of the large size and relative boxy-ness.

The naga looks flat, curvy and awkward to me. Can anyone who has used both compare them?

My wired sidewinder is coming up on on about 5 years of use and I'm considering a replacement.

I'm not sure what the deal is, but I've never been a fan of that style of mouse with >3 buttons on the thumb. I've been rocking a Logitech G5 for a long while now and it seems to suit me much better. Maybe it's because I'm left-handed? I don't mouse lefty, so maybe I'm just not wired to utilize all those bits and bobs.

I am using a Razer Naga Hex Gaming Mouse, I prefer the buttons a lot more, I know it has less but they are easier to use.

I picked up the Naga Hex right before the first beta weekend, and have never looked back. Not only is it great for MOBA style games, but I found it fitting right into the GW2 setup. I play shooters, mobas, mmo's, and all sorts of other games. The hex has yet to be unused.

I'm not a fan of Razers. Not too good customization and prone to failures, followed by very bad customer service. I use a Gigabyte M8000X. Sure, not cheap, but it just feels good, especially with the customization of weights, DPI(insane 6000 DPI) and awesome material. Like petting a noble kitten.
