Watch all of Atlantis.

Then watch all of Universe.

Then weep that there's no more Stargate to watch.

Then start all over again! 17 Seasons of great TV!

3 movies, Don't forget the original movie

[–]speedx5xracer 10 points11 points ago

the original is barely canonical with the series

Doesn't the series practically start with a reference from the movie? (the tissue box thing?)

It should be a mandatory watch for fans anyway. It's fucking Stargate! And it has Kurt Russel in it!

I disagree with this. A few things were altered for reason of practicality (Alien languages, Distance between stargates, ect.), But its dead on otherwise.

OP mentioned already watching those, but always worth a re-watch

This is the truth. I have yet to watch all of SG1, but this is what I shall do.

Well I'd say start watching Atlantis around season 7 or 8 of SG1 so it flows better.

In my opinion:

Watch Battlestar Galactica, Firefly, Dr Who, Farscape, etc then re-watch SG1.

Stargate SG-1 is amazing, but it's all downhill from there (think the transition from season 1 to season 9 only 50 times worse by the time you get to SGU).

Remember to eat and drink and attend to necessary bodily functions! It's common to forget such things when watching Atlantis.

It is a very great show and has some awesome character development through it! Enjoy and get some popcorn!

Watch Atlantis. I like it more than SG-1. O_O;

[–]antidense 10 points11 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I like the average Atlantis episode better than the average SG-1 episode, eventhough SG-1 still has some of the best episodes of the whole franchise.

Lost City.

I will always stand by the belief that season 4 and 5 of Atlantis are the absolute high point of the entire franchise.

THIS CHANGES EVERYTHING!

...but seriously, I never got into it. I have started rewatching SG-1 and as soon at I reach Season 8, I'm going to start watching Atlantis as pre the spreadsheet

[–]olgrandad 11 points12 points ago

As others have said, hold the tears as you must watch SG-A and SG-U (though some found they wept during SG-U.) Then you may weep freely.

Once your tear ducts have been cleansed give Farscape a watch and then The Peacekeeper Wars. Then you can weep again for there is no more Farscape.

But fear not! There is a season of Firefly to keep you sane for a couple of days.

Then you can let the tears flow like Niagra Falls.

[–]pottersquash 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

im in the same boat, on Season 8 of SG1. Already watched Firefly....must I watch Farscape? I did 1st 3 episodes and it was just....it was worst than season 1 of SGU...

[–]mollaby38 10 points11 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Farscape gets very, very good. Season 2 is great and it just gets better from there. As soon as they introduce possibly one of the best villains in sci-fi you will start to love it. I promise.

[–]alucard_3501 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

If you mean Scorpius (I'm sure i spelled that wrong), then yes. Scorpi was an AWESOME villan!

[–]samsaBEAR 2 points3 points ago

He used to freak me out when Farscape first came to the UK, but then I also had nightmares about the Goa'uld the first time I watched Children Of The Gods

[–]alucard_3501 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I love SG-1. I also love Firefly. Those two shows are amazing and have characters that I love. That being said, Farscape is my absolute favorite Sci-Fi show. Give it more than the first three episodes. Give it a chance. I stand by it as one of the best scifi shows ever. So many great characters, so much to love....

Star Trek DS9.

[–]Narcolepzzzzzzzzzzzz 1 point2 points ago

I've watched it through 2.5 times (one only from 5 onward) and have been itching to start it again.

[–]olgrandad 0 points1 point ago

Stargate and Farscape are like sour cream and whipped cream. If your mind is expecting one but receives the other, you instantly spit it out, even though they're both very tasty.

Really, I had the same reaction as you to Farscape. A coworker tried to get me to watch it when it was airing, but I had caught a glimpse of something I didn't like and passed on it. 10 years later I forced myself to watch it and was greatly surprised.

The characters really start to come into their own in late season 2 and season 3. After a 2nd viewing I started to really notice the skill and talent of the actors.

Give it another shot. If you've got nothing else to watch and Netflix, then you've got nothing to lose! :)

I can think of one SG-A scene where I was bawling my eyes out.

[–]Ikarus3426 7 points8 points ago

Watch Atlantis. It's fantastic. I know the idea of SG-1 being gone and a new team taking the focus is not the best thing, but I promise you Atlantis is fantastic. Personally, I favor it a bit more. The stories seem more grand, like there's more at stake or more to discover.

Universe is different. I'm sure you're aware of it by now. Personally, I loved it. Others didn't. It was different from SG-1 and Atlantis, and from a programming stand point it would have been a risk to do a third show and more than 16 seasons of show that followed the same formula. People might get bored. Universe was still great and it's worth the watch. Season 1 may start slow, but the rest of the series holds its own and the ending (as an ending to the franchise) is fitting, especially if you're into metaphors.

Watch it all, then weep because there are no new sci-fi shows that can replace it.

[–]prophetfxb 4 points5 points ago

I love Atlantis as well. Similar team makeup as SG-1. If anything, watch it for McKay alone. There are some seriously gold moments in Atlantis.

[–]SharkBaitDLS 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I hated McKay when he first appeared in SG-1, and my roommate, who had already watched all of Stargate, told me to give him a chance. I'm glad I did.

[–]DigitalisAkujin 3 points4 points ago

Seasons 9 and 10 of SG-1 should really be watched concurrently with Seasons 1 and 2 of Atlantis.

[–]samsaBEAR 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Atlantis is my favourite series, mainly because it's so rich in Ancient technology and I love all the Ancient stuff. Starting again on SG1 is so weird with them not knowing anything

Watch SGU! It's just so awesome. The one girl gets pregnant and you're like "Whoa, whose baby is it!" but it's that one guy's baby, not the other guy, and they're like cheating but it's not really their fault since the scifi doohicker kinda made them do it that first time and it's just so awesome and so dark and gritty definitely the best and most realistic Stargate ever!

[–]Narcolepzzzzzzzzzzzz 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Haha, as soon as I saw your username and the first two words I read the rest of it in a sarcastic voice.

I agree with most of your many downvoted rants on SGU, but I will say it got pretty good at the end.

Watch all of the movies, and all of the shows.

After you've seen ALL things related to Stargate, I'm pretty sure you are ready to die. Since there is probably not going to be anything as awesome as what you just saw for another 2000 years.

[–]d47 1 point2 points ago

I've seen this list before.

And that other time it contained, as it still does here,

Firefly (Seasons 1-7)

Yet there is only the one season of Firefly.

I do not like this copypasta.

Lol its mostly to make Firefly fans cry. cries

I do not like this copypasta.

Absolutely, you must watch Atlantis and Universe, I loved them both too. Also check out Farscape, my second favourite after Stargate

[–]xorf 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Definitely watch Atlantis. I didn't like it at first, but when I finally sat down and started watching it, I was sad when suddenly I was at the end of the series.

You may or may not like Universe, because it's definitely a bit different. I, personally, could not get into it.

I'm rewatching SG-1 for the billionth (okay, maybe sixth) time at this very moment. Never get enough.

[–]duck_oil 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I was the same way with Atlantis. I had just finished SG1 (still riding the high) and was mildly disappointed when I started Atlantis. Then it got rolling and I started really liking it.

I tried a few episodes of SGU and I knew I wasn't looking for a show with so much drama. It reminded me of the parts of BSG I didn't like.

[–]TheRiverStyx 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I'm in the process of watching SG-1 season 10 and Atlantis season 3 interleaving DVDs as I go. I'd suggest you watch Atlantis.

They did change Rodney McKay for Atlantis a little bit. He's just as egotistical, but not quite a douche as he was in the SG-1 shows. There are also some other growth opportunities for him too. But some episodes he just blasts the old McKay awesomeness.

[–]Cubejam 0 points1 point ago

Is Atlantis worth watching? OF COURSE! Atlantis is amazing. imo better than SG-1

[–]SpaceSword 0 points1 point ago

[–]Simbrian 0 points1 point ago

Atlantis and Universe aren't quite as good as SG1 in my opinion but still worth watching. Sanctuary is good with Amanda Tapping after you're done with Stargate.

That reminds me of my roommate this past Fall. I introduced him to Stargate and he basically did nothing in our room for the next month and a half but watch Stargate on his computer, followed by SGA.
