You definitely deserve your money back dude. I hope you ask for it and fight for it if they don't want to give it to you.

I THINK that for once Missiontix is going to be cooperative and refund me and my friends, haha. I was really worried about that too since I know how impossible it can be to get anything out of sites like Missiontix and Ticketmaster. I'm currently out about $150 from buying my GA ticket, GA parking pass, and of course service charges.

Or you could dispute the charges with your credit card company and let them fight it for you.

[–]cmckone 5 points6 points ago

this is actually a good idea. the credit card companies have the money and lawyers to really fight these fucked up corps to the extent to actually make a statement. A statement large enough to make these ridiculous money making machines make some changes. Best of luck to you my friend. I do hope you give these guys some real hell. PLUR.

If Missiontix doesn't want to refund you then you should contact Steez & Ultraworld directly. It might take a little while of persuading, convincing and arguing but don't forget that you deserve your money back in full for this no matter what kind of bullshit they tell you. Best of luck dude!

They are refunding. If you haven't seen it yet there is a full post at facebook.com/starscapefestival

Thankfully Missiontix and Steez seem to have their shit together because I got an almost identical email from Missiontix. This makes me feel 100% better, I think I'd be done with festivals entirely if I had to eat $120.

Curious to your advice and advice from the others here;

I kind of had a shitty time at Starscape. I used their mobile site to download my ticket to my phone and the guy scanning my ticket said "hey, these don't always work but if it won't scan I'm gonna let you in anyway, cool?" My ticket wouldn't scan, but he sent me ahead into the line to get my wristband anyway.

I went, but I had a shitty time. My ticket didn't get scanned. Should I email for a refund? Or is that being a douche bag and taking advantage of the system/ situation? As far as I'm concerned, Steez can be some selfish, shady, greedy bastards.

...I'm going to be a really bad person and tell you to be a bad person too. If I were you I'd try for a refund. I'll be honest, I'm mad. I am not in the mood to be forgiving. I think Steez fucked up and I think they deserve to be stuck for it.

I'm pretty sure they won't refund the associated fees, but what the fuck is $75 to them? Srsly. I emailed them. I don't care.

This is where writing a letter to your local, state and congressional representative about the lack of coordination from the fire marshall and the promoter.

I threw an event a few years back, It was on an indoor paintball field that was in a Quonset hut. Really great venue, great vibe. A nice warehouse feeling. Threw another event there a few months later. This time the cops came said we were too loud in a residential neighborhood. We were technically in a neighborhood, but being a realtor for a day job, I pulled out my PLAT and zoning info I got from my office and said "SORRY! ZONED FOR COMMERCIAL!".

Then he said we were operating a business unlicensed. "SORRY HERE IS MY MUSIC PROMOTERS BUSINESS LICENSE, $ 1 MIL INSURANCE COVERAGE AND THE VENUES LICENSE"

then he said we were past curfew for minors. "SORRY HERE IS THE CITY MINOR CURFEW REGULATION I PRINTED FROM THE REGULATIONS WEBSITE, WE ARE IN PERFECT REGULATION HERE". He then got his dogs and started scanning cars, said his dogs "checked" on each car in the lot and they were getting warrants to open them.

At the point, knowing what kind of stuff people keep in their cars at raves I shut the party down, I'd rather not let my guests get harassed at my party.

Next day, I put on my suit, tie, RE/MAX and Realtors pin and walked straight into the chief of police office, it was like a fucking movie "SIR YOU CANT GO IN WITHOUT AN APPOINTMENT" "MAAM I AM A GOD DAMNED TAX PAYER AND PRIVATE BUSINESS OWNER, I DONT NEED AN APPOINTMENT"

He was actually a really cool guy, was profusely sorry about the harassment, apparently the third watch guy who was being a douche is known for being a douche. He made the cop write me a formally apology. PLUS WE GOT A COMPENSATION CHEQUE FROM THE CITY FOR FUNDS LOST!

What I'm trying to say is, write a letter, MAIL it USPS and let your voice be heard.

It's funny how aspects of paintball are similar to aspects of raves. Masks, baggy pants, sweatiness, and slippery floors.

I feel your pain, my friends got turned away as well. Steez also ruined Fall Massive, I have lost faith in Steez. Their events are overly americanized dubstep anyways. Starscape wasn't that good since it was basically a gigantic relief to hear anything that wasn't dubstep.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I had a great time at Massive and not until the colossal Starscape fuck up have I been hearing that they ruined FM - just wondering, what happened exactly? I thought it was well run and I had no issues there. I know the the noise and having to turn down the volume was an issue, but aside from that, what else?

[–]HoffAmazing 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

The noise thing was bad enough for me, espcially since everyone I REALLY wanted to see was after that..... You go to these events to hear this music on gigantic systems the proper way. FM wasn't proper with the noise violations. I still had fun, because I don't let things ruin my time. I danced my ass off, but I could have had a fucking blast.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I had a great time dude. I don't think I even knew about the noise levels until after I left, probably because my ears were shot. I think the last two I saw were Moby and Infected, and I enjoyed the hell out of both. I think before that I saw Zedd and he killed it too. I really had no complaints. And I don't blame Steez for the so much as I blame DC. They should've understood how loud it was going to be and then Steez could've found and alternate location.

I know what you mean and agree, but I still take issue with the "americanized" part.

Starscape wasn't that good since it was basically a gigantic relief to hear anything that wasn't dubstep.

Not going the last 2 years was a huge relief. I had gone for many, and after 09 and 10, the brostep noise on every stage at once several times throughout the night was enough for me not to return.

[–]HoffAmazing 1 point2 points ago

Was it actually crowded again though? I thought they were not going to over sell it like the last 2 years. I swear I read that over and over again somewhere.

[–]HoffAmazing 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

You read that, and it was true compared to last year. Last year was SILLY with how crowded it was. The Beach Stage last year during Skrillex was fucking insane. This year, crowd was fine, should have let more people in. My guess is the Fire Marshall went nuts because of how many people were on drugs and looked like they obviously were.

There was a lot of stuff I didn't like about starscape this year. Doubt I'll be going back next year unless they actually decide to acknowledge and fix their fuck ups. They're probably being raped by hate mail right now so I'm gonna wait a few weeks before I try to reach out to them. Also, Baltimore PD... thank you for having such obvious undercovers. It made it super easy to avoid interacting with you all.

[–]mumblebump 3 points4 points ago

I'm sorry you weren't able to get in, that really really blows.

From the inside, I had a great time. I thought they did a much better job than many events. It's my third Starscape. My crew of 15+, some of them have been going to 7-8 Starscapes, makes the drive from MA/VT/Penn/NY and we arrived around 4:30pm, left around 5am.

I thought it was fantastic they let us bring unopened food and water in. The lines were really fast to get in. I found the large security and police presence to be reassuring, and them to be friendly and nice -like they were actually there for our safety not to bust kids. The portapotties were being emptied and the toilet paper was being restocked. Water at only $3 a bottle was fanfrickentastic. Surprise to me, there was even a bag check! Didn't need it but good to know.

I liked that they sold less tickets. Of course I always/still think it's way too over crowded, but it was certainly better than the meatgrinder of two years ago. Some stages (I'm looking at you Beach Stage) were just too fricken loud. I wanted earplugs for my earplugs with giant earplugs on top. There's no need to be that loud. As the night wore on and people were dropping I did see a larger emergency response force, however I wish they had easy to spot stations throughout the whole event. They need to do something about those golf carts trying to drive through, like actually having the headlights on and maybe giving them some kind of bull horn, particularly to get the emergency golfcarts through. I'd also like to find out the numbers on medical emergencies and violent crimes. Definitely saw them massaging a man's heart...

I was not impressed by the deco. I don't need it anyway but felt they hyped it so much. unnecessary and unimpressive. also, too much dubstep.

Nope, it was announced about a month in advance. The Friday lineup took longer to come out though.

Every year my sister buys me a ga ticket for my birthday when early bird ticket sales start.. Before the official lineup drops. For the past two years ive also been buying myself a VIP ticket and giving my GA ticket to a friend who napped or is broke. So, kinda.

Also djs like chase n status didn't have to play mostly dub step. That was lame.

It wasn't just unsuccessful because people couldn't get in after 10. There were a lot of fucked up things this year, a lot of them had nothing to do with Steez. A few things I wanted to get off my chest as well;

1) Too many people were too fucked up. 2011 SS and 2011 Fall Massive I rarely saw people who were too fucked up. This year SS there were super fucked people left and right. I saw security carrying out more people than I've ever seen before. SS is claiming no one died and I don't believe them. I had a friend working security who said people were dropping like flies before the sun even went down due to heat. This is probably a dehydration thing, not a drugs thing, but at night, it was definitely a combination. There are way too many entirely inarticulate people posting on FB about this "epic party" and how "fxed" they got and it's not a fucking party, it's a music festival, it's about the music, not about partying and getting fucked up. The crowd last year was great. The crowd this year fucking ruined it for me.

2) As a result of this security, police, and EMS all looked extremely stressed out, over-worked, and in complete disbelief. I can't blame them.

3) People complaining about there not being free water are idiots. I don't think there is anywhere at the park with running water and it's not feasible to bring in water tanks; what happens if those run out? I went at 7PM because it was way too fucking hot Saturday, brought two liters of water to put in my CamelBak, and I didn't even finish all of the water by the time I left. It is not that hard to plan around needing water. Where was all the fucking outrage last year when water was $6 a bottle? I was just thankful they toned it down to $3 this year.

4) People complaining about litter; there is going to be litter. And the litter was just as bad last year as it was this year. I saw plenty of people throwing away their trash, there were more than enough trash receptacles, even if some were overflowing they were changing out bags through the night. Plus, they pay people to clean up the park because they know it will end up a shitshow. It's not the end of the world.

5) All these fucking hippies saying we need to "take care of our brothers and sisters." No. Fuck no, and fuck you. What they were referring to specifically was helping fucked up people; no, if someone does not care enough about their self to take proper care of their self, fuck them, it is not my responsibility to make them better. Preaching shit about "the body is a temple" yeah, well clearly, THEY don't think their body is a temple or else they wouldn't look like a fucking idiot right now from taking too many drugs. It is not my responsibility to take care of someone who clearly wants to destroy their self. I sat on a curb next to a girl who had her head resting on her arms/ knees and I said hey, are you okay? She looked up and said yeah! I'm okay, just a little light headed. I asked her if she wanted water but she had a bottle so I said okay cool, just making sure you're okay. But if someone is walking through a crowd, being a huge jackass, or isn't even cognitively functioning to know people are talking to them? No. Sorry. I am not security or EMS, it's not my problem. Tell me that's a shitty attitude, I don't care. I'm sick of kids going to these things and getting too fucked up and not being there for what it's really all about.

6) I am not in any way shape or form against drinking or drug use. But there is a huge difference between having responsible fun with those things which is most of what I saw at SS in 2011, and taking bad drugs from strangers at a festival and OD'ing or being out of your fucking mind. Why pay $82 for a festival you're never going to remember?

I don't think I will be returning to another Steez festival which is unfortunate because they run all of the festivals in this mid-Atlantic region and I can't really afford to travel elsewhere.

EDIT: I forgot other things that were specifically Steez that pissed me off. The dance tent was shut down for about an hour while Kill the Noise should've been on. When I went to see Zedd, KTN was on. When I went to see if Zedd was coming on late, the tent was shut down again. THEN somewhere along the line, Zedd actually played, and I missed it. Fucking blown. That was the #1 person I wanted to see that night.

And from the main stage when the dance tent was working, you could hear it - and also the fucking dubstep from the beach stage. Totally ruined the main stage sound for me. What. The. Hell.

This is kind of a minor point, but what drugs are people taking that are making them forget the night? I saw Goa Gil in Guadalajara in 2010 and was partying very hard with Lucy and I still remember how much fun I had and most of the people I met.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Saw people who clearly just drank too much, and apparently there was a shitload of DOB going around where people were passing it off as L. With DOB you can have a perfectly okay time on it, but unlike with L you can very easily overdose and that shit will put you into a coma.

[–]kaden_sotek 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Ah, ok. That makes sense. Alcohol would definitely do it. I've never come across DOB though, so I don't have any experience with that.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I hadn't either, apparently it was at Starscape last year but it was a lot worse this year. I only heard about it this year talking to a friend today who said it was a lot of the problem on Saturday; too many people thinking they're dealing with L and if you take something like 4 or more tabs of DOB you overdose. Scary shit. I don't take drugs from strangers at festivals. (I somehow always end up knowing someone there who has a friend, etc. Never take shit from people who just want your money, only people trying to take care of you and want you to have a good time.)

It's also people doing drugs and drinking on top of it. I'm not 21 yet but even if I were, I wouldn't be that stupid...

[–]kaden_sotek 0 points1 point ago

I don't take drugs from strangers at festivals. [...] Never take shit from people who just want your money, only people trying to take care of you and want you to have a good time. [Not mixing alcohol with drugs]

Just quoting that for emphasis because the 25 year old me agrees completely.

I have very reliable hookups, so I only take what I bring with me and never drink when I'm at a festival. I'm kind of over the rave scene though. I just go to one or two psy/darkpsy events per year at this point. It's basically just a release.

Anyway... cheers, sister!

I can't believe I did it last year sober. Shit was unreal. I just wish I could show people the experience I had without drugs. I missed it this year, though, but I guess I'm okay with that. Good insights on drug use and the scene. It seems it's becoming saturated with young party-happy highschool/college kids who just want to "RAGE".

It seems like your biggest complaint is about other people getting too fucked up. How does that affect your experience? I've been to plenty an event/festivals with people who are too fucked up for their own good and it hasn't been a problem.

Also it's pretty standard for there to be water tanks at these types of festivals. Do you work for Steez? I don't get why you'd be defending them for NOT having those.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

You should have made your title to 'ticketholders trying to enter after 10:30 pm'. I got there at 10:20-10:30 and got in just fine. That sucks that you were not able to go in though.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

I mean, I have no way of knowing when they actually closed the doors. It would have been quite egotistical of me to assume that the doors were closed right before I got there, although that appears to be the case. So instead I used a general time to get the point across that with 8+ hours of the event left they stopped letting in ticketholders which is absolutely inexcusable.

Lucky you for just barely squeaking by. :[

I am sorry to hear this, duder. Keep your head up. Something I've learned about raves is to always be weary of over-capacity. I am surprised, though, that fort armistead somehow has a capacity limit. Fucking fire marshalls don't rave so they don't know! Listen man, you live in a very rich area for electronic music, so go check out all of the shows and festivals coming to your area this summer! No worries.

[–]Messiah 0 points1 point ago

Apparently the fire marshall decided that the venue was overcrowded and so they closed the gates completely for the rest of the night.

While I have had the fire marshal cause problems at events in the past, I was told they way undersold compared to the last two years where they way oversold. Can anyone that got in confirm this? Starscape has been a shit show for a while now. Eventually raves wont be that cool anymore once again, and things might improve.

Because my friends and I wanted to stay until 6 am and 8+ hours is more than enough time to be dancing one's ass off.

I resent your attitude. It was in no way a "mistake" on my part. As a ticketholder I should be able to show up whenever I want to, that's the point of buying a ticket.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

This was the way I felt about it. Nowhere on the ticket did it say "No admission after _________" that would've been a completely different story. They did not give the product they sold. It might not have been their fault, but still. I think this is probably why they gave refunds; they didn't hold up their end of the transaction.
