Bam

Go to the polling station on May 2 with some ID proving your identity and address.

If you're a student and your driver's license has a different address than where you live (say it's registered at your parents, but you live in an apartment in a different riding), bring a utility bill or something else, that's recent, that proves your current address.

How it works: Show up to the poll may 2nd with one of three things and look for the registration officer:

Option 1) One piece of ID with your photo, name, and address (ie Driver's License)

Option 2) Show two original pieces of authorised ID. Both must have your name and one must also have your address (i.e. health card and hydro bill)

Option 3) Swear and oath and have an eligible elector vouch for your by swearing an oath. This person must have either option 1 or option 2 and be from the same polling area as you. This person can only vouch for one person.

Happy Voting!

edit: or you could click lone_star's link and get the info right from Elections Canada.

I left the country 3 weeks ago and will not be back until after the election. I just showed up to the Elections Office nearest my house with two (2) pieces of Valid ID showing my address, and I was allowed to vote right then and there. I was the first voter in my riding.

You can call elections Canada (1-800-463-6868) or contact them by any other means to find out where the nearest Elections office is near you.

You are never screwed for voting.

The deadline for this is today at 6pm.

The deadline is for voting by special ballot, and I think its for 6pm today. This is if you want to vote somewhere other than where you are on May 2nd.

correct. If you don't vote special ballot by 6pm today you must vote on May 2nd. Luckily as others have mentioned, you can register with the proper ID and still vote that day.

You do have to register before voting, but you can register on election day at the polling station before you vote.

Bring the appropriate ID with you and you should be okay.

Never listen to stupid people, always go research these things yourselves. lone_star linked you to Elections Canada's website which tells you all the things you need to know about voting, registering, etc.

My daughter just voted for the first time yesterday in an advanced poll. She brought her health card and an acceptance letter from college with her name and address. Took her less than 5 minutes to get registered.

I don't remember exactly how it works but I'm pretty sure if you filed a tax return last year you should be okay. I remember when I was 18 I just kind of showed up and everything went better than expected because of something something tax return. I don't quite remember, I smoked a lot of weed back then. Another time I went to the wrong voting place and a nice volunteer told me where my proper voting centre was.

Just In case you couldn't find it (it's not a very good website for new voters), you can register on the 2nd at your vote station. Remember to bring 2 pieces of government issued ID, also a tax return may help...
