I just got back as well. Dear god, I don't need to see another movie again. The only way that movie could have given more fan service is if Joss Whedon personally gave you a blow job with each ticket purchase.

If trailer 3 is anything to go by, Amazing Spider-man might also kick ass. Spider-man? Making actual jokes? Awesome.

Are you fucking kidding me? The previews we got last night were:

  • Battleship
  • Dark Shadows
  • Men in Black 3
  • Dark Knight

There may have been another but by this time I was hoping they would start the movie. I love movie trailers and was very disappointed.

I saw a trailer for Prometheus. That looks pretty awesome but all the other previews were lame with the exception of The Dark Knight.

EDIT: I just remembered that I saw the preview for Expendables 2. Can not wait for that.

Yeah, my theater showed Battleship, Dark Knight Rises, Prometheus, the new Spiderman, Brave, and I believe Frankenweenie (or whatever that new animated Tim Burton flick is called). DKR, Prometheus, Spidey, and Brave got me excited for them. Battleship made me groan…

One of the best comments from my actor best friend was "I knew he was playing something the whole time, but I couldn't figure it out, until that line, and it clicked into place. Every moment he's onscreen, it's barely contained, simmering rage."

YES. Once you know it, the next time you see the film it fits in. With the bonus of Bruce's fake-out anger at Natasha actually becoming scarier.

My favourite parts were the subtle moments with Cap. Him saying things like 'son of a gun', calling Black Widow "ma'am", all the stuff that reinforced his 40's tendencies. Also, the ten dollars.

When Nick Fury went to recruit the Captain he told him he had a long debrief ahead of him and that a lot would shock him. The Captain retorted by saying nothing could surprise him anymore. Nick Fury then made the 10 dollar bet.

I loved Cap, he just continued to reinforce himself as my favorite character.

[–]seancurry1 7 points8 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Cap was amazing. Chris Evans pulled off a hell of a feat, and even moreso because no one really noticed it. He had to play one character in two movies. In the first, the character had to fit in with everyone and everything going on around him. In the second, he had to be completely out of place. All while staying the same character. Not only did he pull it off, he pulled it off so well that no one noticed it.

No-one's mentioned it yet, but one of my favourite parts is towards the end of the final battle, when there's the one fly-through set-piece that features all of the heroes kicking ass in one 'continuous' move. Not only is the shot really nice, but seeing Iron Man bounce his blasters off of Cap's shield at the bad guys and Hulk and Thor working together to take down the big floaty space snake thing was amazing.

so overall I thought hulk was great. I think the way Ruffalo played him was fantastic, and seeing hulk get to smash shit was awesome. Here is my one issue with hulk, as it pertains to the comedy: At the begining and through the middle, I LOVED the way they portrayed Banner and Hulk. Everyone was on edge around him. They were scared. When he confronts Black Widow in that shack and she has a look of terror on her face, I really just found that scene awesome for some reason. But at the end, the hulk has turned into kind of a joke source. His fighting was, while awesome, often times had a strong comedic element to it. Also, I don't know what suddenly made him come back with such seeming control over the Hulk, that was kind of a big turn around that came out of no where. Something about that turn around kind of bothered me. Still, a GREAT film, I highly recommend everyone sees it. Still pretty amazed that it got pulled off. It's gonna make a lot of money for sure.

[–]Robofetus-5000Atomic Robo 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yeah, it didn't kill the film for me or anything. I was more than happy to suspend disbelief for the film, anyway. It was nice to have a super-hero film that was apologetically "super-hero". I was glad to see them not omit things like a giant flying aircraft carrier for the sake of realism.

Marvel has it figured out, use the characters for the reason they are loved! Avengers nailed it!

I'm really great they gave both Natasha and Hawkeye decent roles in this movie, i was worried that they would be underlooked due to their lack of super powers. However I really could have used two things (don't get me wrong, this movie was brilliant imo):

  1. It would've been nice to hear SOMEONE say "Avengers assemble!" at some point in the movie

AND

I personally would have liked to see Loki use more of his abilities. It seems like in thor and avengers that loki is just a guy who can make clones of himself. That's it. Also, a fight with all of the avengers against Loki would've been even better.

Oh and, could someone please explain to me the scene on the helicarrier where bruce picks up the scepter?

Oh, whoops, for some reason I thought the Triskelion was a helicarrier.

The way Edward Norton explained it in The Incredible Hulk, it's like a really strong hallucination. He can kinda aim it a bit, but he is easily distracted and, of course, has major anger problems.

[–]Beaumark 4 points5 points ago

Not so much with control just more aimed in the right direction, although he can be reasoned with in Hulk form it's just obviously very hard.

Had a friend who did a 6 movie marathon at his local theater ending with the midnight showing of Avengers 3D, with Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor in 3D, & Captain America in 3D before it. While that sounds awesome, there's no way I could sit through that many at once.

[–]darth-hideousWolverine 8 points9 points ago

I did that. Started 11:30am, was Iron Man, Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor (3D) Captain America (3D) and then Avengers in 3D at midnight. I'm surprised I stayed awake for it all. Was quite cool since I never saw any of them in a theater, only on video.

"I liked the part where something awesome happened."

"What? Whi-"

"All of them."

there was about 20 of us in the theater who lost are shit when he appeared. then there was about 40 people you could tell decided to lose their shit because they didn't want to be left out. The rest of the theater didn't pretend they just sat their dumfounded and then asked the first fat sweaty guy they saw who that was.

It was a deliciously awkward scene of the avengers sitting in a damaged restaurant eating and not saying anything because they were worn out. there were many laughs

[–]brianst0rming 6 points7 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

They were actually eating shawarmas. Remember when Hulk woke Iron Man up with his roar and Iron Man was all like, "Have you guys ever had shawarmas? etc etc" It was a reference to that scene.

I admit, I'm probably not a big enough fan to even post here but is Captain America's main role just to be a leader? His super-human strength just didn't seem very...super.

[–]CapWasRightHercules 13 points14 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Captain America does not now nor has never had 'super' strength. He is generally described as the strongest, most athletic you can possible get without being 'super' human - in the sense that in theory anybody else could get there through hard work and excellent genetics.

That's the way it should be. The whole point of the Avengers is that, as I'm fairly certain Joss said "They shouldn't even be in the same room, let alone on the same team."

I personally LOVED the film but in my theater there was this stupid chick that was way too loud and just being an attention whore. So I put my Hulk on and told her to "SHUT THE FUCK UP!" As soon as she began to defend herself from my Hulk Smash another fellow patron interjected with the precision of a skilled bowman and told her "Seriously; SHUT THE FUCK UP!"

But alas, this chick was not alone. Nay! Her lame friends rallied to her defense but were greeted with the combined unison of the theater telling them all to "BE QUIET!"

On that day, the Movie-Go'ers were born—to shush the assholes no single fan could withstand!

TL;DR Loud Obnoxious Assholes ruin movies.

You could always come down to Austin to watch it at the Alamo Drafthouse. They don't stand for that bullshit there. Plus you get great food and booze during the film.

Fucking woo girl next to me. I'm really not a fan of loud applause during a movie but I can deal. It's opening night and people are excited but you don't have to fucking "WOOOO!" every time any one says or does something clever.

Saw the midnite! Dear God, could there possibly be a better Hulk rendition? They managed to make the Hulk a bit of comic relief kinda sorta whatever, it was perfectly done. Also, keeping with Joss Whedon's strong female characters, for the first time since "Lost in Translation" I'm deeply in love with Scarlet Johansson.

[–]oftheapes 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I loved the movie. Definitely the best Marvel movie to date.

Talking about mid-cinema orgasms doesn't really breed discussion though, so here is some criticism: -It deserved a better composer. The score wasn't bad, but it wasn't memorable at all. Use of strong character themes (or even a memorable main theme) could have taken the movie to another level. -Respect to Whedon for trying to expand Black Widow's character, but Johansson's acting fell flat with me. -The Chitauri costumes and set looked really cheap in the scene where Loki astrally projects(I guess?) to talk to them.

The music really gets to me. I love orchestral movie soundtracks. Avengers would've been a golden opportunity to a more talented composer (no offense to Alan Silvestri) to make something amazing.
