Davos's son (I think it was Matthos) comes of like such an annoying stupid twerp, which in-and-of-itself is fine, but the part where he mentions praying for Davos when he went to sea was stupidly self-defeating. Assuming he didn't convert to the Lord of Light at a very young age for no reason, he must be referring to prayers directed at the Seven, so the fact that Davos survives suggests that the Seven are true and thus the Fire God isn't. It seems like a fairly obvious writing mistake, but everything else that kid said was fucking retarded, so maybe it was just him 'tarding it up some more.

I kept waiting for Davos to tell him he prayed to the Seven and shut him the fuck up. Yeah, that was pretty stupid.

Haven't seen ep2 yet, gonna watch it tonight with my gf, but I've heard it's Rakharo (sp?) and he's been killed/written off because the actor is gonna be working on something else. Though I'm sure they could have gotten someone looking about like him to take his place. I mean, can anyone of you honestly tell the bloodriders apart and would even notice if one of them was swapped with someone else?

Kinda sucks when that kind of thing happens though, same thing with the actor playing the Mountain leaving the show for something else.

Yeah, he's apparently going to be working on something else. I don't feel that bad about the Mountain being re-casted though. From the top of my head, I can't really think of that many scenes where he's actually present in the books.

in the books no, but from the upcoming episode overviews, Arya, Gendry & company will be brought to Harrenhal and the Mountain.

I know that in the books ASOS spoiler

I think they almost HAVE to change her storyline up a bit ir you'll have 15 episodes of her sitting on her ass doing nothing

I think the writers are just trying to emphasize how harsh the desert is and what a desperate situation Dany and her Khalasar are in. The deaths of Silver and of Rakharo (I think it was him, especially considering his and Dany's goodbye in the previous episode) are rather inconsequential in the long run, so I don't see this as a huge change.

Which is kinda pointless since they still didn't know who did it.

I havent seen anyone else say this but they took out Shireen. They say in ep2 Stannis has only had stillborns and shes not on the hbo guide site, so there's that..

[–]Ritoki 0 points1 point ago*

This really confused me. If there's no Shireen, there's (probably) no Patchface and thus, no 'avatar' for the Drowned God. Just going back to some of the tinfoil theories floating around here on that last point, but Patchface is a crazy prophecy-spouting character that is both funny and creepy. He forecasts some of the most important events in the novels (Blackwater battle and Red Wedding among them). Another important aspect to consider is that Ahireen is the audience's first glimpse at the greyscale disease, which becomes increasingly important in the latter portion of the novels.

Taking Patchface out is like taking Bombadil out in LOTR, he's a very silly character that wouldn't really work on screen.

I agree with Tom Bombadil not really translating well onscreen, but then again Bombadil wasn't particularly important to the story (besides being sort of immune to the Ring). I didn't know about D&D checking with GRRM about character development further down the line! Book spoiler

Mod note about:

fair warning: this will be filled with episode 2 spoilers, so if you haven't seen it yet, go back now.

I've allowed this one due to the "special case" nature of the current 2.02 discussion threads, but in the future if you want to have open spoilers you'll need to place the warning in your topic title so people see it before they click into the thread.

all right, thank you! I'll make sure to put it in the title next time. I just figured it would be obvious from the "for those of you who've seen episode two" in the title.

  1. is often hinted at in the books (iirc), but never confirmed. Think of this as like showing renly and loras, just making it obvious.

2 and 3 seem to be clear cut changes.

4 will almost certainly still happen, imo. not sure why it wouldn't.

Book Spoiler

When Balon said, "Who said anything about the Lannisters?" It's pretty obvious to me he meant to attack Winterfell.

[–]BgroHouse Baelish 3 points4 points ago

You need a spoiler tag. Theon proposes going to war with the Lannisters and wants to lead the charge against Casterly Rock. His father, in the book and in the show, has other ideas but, as far as the show is concerned, has not said what those plans are.

On that quote, maybe he just plans on pillaging the coast ? Winterfell is far in the lands, and would be hard to keep. Greyjoy are not meant to hold such lands, says Asha in the books.

Actually I don't think ACoK.

Yeah, I found the rest weird, but I think they have no choice but to deviate if they want the show to hold together. The amount of information you can deliver in a 50 minute show is way thinner than in a book (hope that was english). They do this mostly for the story to be understandable for someone non book-savvy.

On a side note I wonder how Tyrion managed to hi-jack the watch so easily.. That's weird for me.

Oh, and you should probably spoiler those.

4 is how it was in the books. Well, ACoK spoiler

And D&D did say that this season would start to deviate from the books more than last. I like it - it throws me curveballs I'm not anticipating, which keeps everything fresh and exciting. The meat of the story will be the same, so I don't mind the details being changed.

This post has no title warning, so event details need spoiler tags. Future details not yet aired in the current season require red book tags (like your first point).

good catch on #4 but it may still be early enough where he does, that seems like too big a change
