I know just what you are talking about. It almost sounds like tire screeching but more prolonged and high pitched.

Probably road work in the hood...Underground sink hole prevention squad.

Or that scientific lab place near North and Oakland. I have no idea what they do there, but I think it has scientific in the name.

I know exactly what your talking about, I live by Cambridge dormitories (by Judges or where La Piazza used to be), I've heard that for the last year or so at nights. No idea what it is but i've always wondered. I thought it had something to do with the plant by Cambridge dorms or possibly a homeless demon. Probably a homeless demon

Don't know this particular sound, but there is a train bridge north of Bay View that produces a prolonged squealing sound whever a train crosses. Probably the same thing.

I live a little farther north...by Riverside High School. There is a pumping station on the west side of the river that emits a high pitched noise. The noise is usually during the night.

YOUR ANSWER: Its the box factory/ cardboard recycling center along the river side on N Newhall St.... also the reason for the wet paper smell occasionally

WTF is up with the noise on the eastside? i've only lived here a year, but in the late summer/fall it was relatively quiet. Now, I sit on my porch and have to deal with thumping car stereos driving my, police sirens almost continually, my idiot neighbor trying to play jazz flute 6 hours a day, etc.
