Me too! I was three when it was released, one of the best childhood movies I've seen, along with Toy Story.

The number of people agreeing with this really gives you a good idea of the average age of people here.

Anyway, yep this is the first thing I saw in the Cinema.

The only movie me and my dad ever went to together was Die Hard with a vengance when I was like 9 or 10, I told him it was a kids movie and we watched the entire thing.

Also Toy Story. Kind of cool the way that in the third movie they aged Andy along with the film. Kind of sad, also. Kind of. Little bit.

Add me to the Jurassic Park list. I was a 7-year-old dinosaur fanatic, and the T-Rex's debut is to this day one of the coolest things I've ever seen in my life, even though I was more of a Raptor guy, myself.

I'm seeing a lot of these but I have never seen an animated Disney feature in the theater. I am just now realizing that this is not normal. I'm 29 so I was kid age from "The Little Mermaid" through to like, "Mulan".

Yep, it's tied with Empire Strikes Back because it was the first time that I saw a sequel that was really better than the original. But Star Wars was the first movie I ever saw a really fucking HUGE screen and it was the perfect movie for it. When the space ship came rumbling across the screen it was like I was 5 years old even though I was in 20, man, just great.

Edit: Ooops! I thought it was BEST film I saw at the theater. Like the best experience at a theater. Oh well.

[–]gruntyboy 0 points1 point ago

I loved Empire also, and I agree it is one of the few sequels that was better than the original.

Having Seen Star Wars as my first movie ever, it was hard to beat that. Almost 35 years ago and I still remember it like it was yesterday. My Dad has told me many times that he looked over at me a couple times and I was staring at the screen, mouth open, eyes wide with amazement.

Only a couple of movie experiences will ever compare to that one...

Robin Hood though i'm not sure it counts. I went towards the cinema door and got terrified as I looked through the window of it and saw this giant person on screen, I was so young I couldnt wrap my head around it and probably thought it was an actual giant person.

Star Wars 1977. Got the tickets, and there is a black out. We waited, the longest time our hopes fading. So we decided to leave, got to the car, and all the light's suddenly came on! We run all the way back, arriving just in time. My Darkside experience!!!!

I want to say Galaxy Quest, but I don't know if that counts, considering I was very young, so my memory is vague (I was about 3), and it was playing in an amphitheater. I guess the first film I saw in a real theater was either Shrek or Spider-man. Probably Shrek as that came out earlier.

It was either The Lion King or Toy Story (at least when I was old enough to remember), so whichever of those came out first... internet says Lion King in '94, so that. Maybe I'm only remembering those two because they were so good, but it's funny how both of those ended up being hailed as timeless classics and went down in history

The 90's were the best for film. (Especially '99...) I wonder why that was? And why it's so terrible now? I know the 'financial crisis' caused the horrible sequelitis, but even the few original movies these days aren't that good. Best we've had in some time is Inception. Even Dark Knight is an existing franchise and a sequel.

The first one I have a memory of was Batman in 1989 and I was on a "date". It sucked because all I could think about was how I was going to hold the hand of the girl I was with and paid little attention to the movie.

But really, it was Jurassic Park. I was three-years-old. My Dad had to take me out of the theater because I ran up and down the aisles screaming random things about how awesome dinosaurs were.

I lived in a small city and the cinema there was closed most of the time because no one went to it.

Also, it was just a couple of years after the communist party fell and TV and movies was new to all of us. While the communist party was at power there was only ONE tv station that only aired a couple of hours a day, and even then it was propaganda.

I'll let you guys figure it out where this was. I'll give you a tip though, there was a big revolution that ended with the capture and execution of the president and his wife.

Star Wars. The real one. The first re-release prior to Empire coming out. Saw it September 16, 1979.

A Bug's Life, in 1999. I ran out screaming the grasshoppers first appeared. I cracked my head open and had to go to the hospital.

I was born in the USSR and lived there until the fall of communism. First movie I ever saw was The Last Unicorn. Unlike in US we did not go to the movies much, so the first time happened as a school trip. One half of my class went to see The Last Unicorn and the other saw Galaxy Express 999.

One of the first movies I can remember seeing was Saving Private Ryan.

I don't know why my cousins took a child with them to see that movie but it probably explains my sick sense of humor now.

The very first movie I ever saw was Barneys Great Egg Adventure (Im only 16.) After that I saw Tarzan, but I started crying because the scene where he fought a panther or some thing scared me and we had to leave. I didnt really watch a movie again after that until a while later, when my dad showed me a Harold Lloyd movie and we watched a new one every Wednesday night.
