New to reddit! I'm a volunteer with big dreams! (self.nonprofit)

Hi! I'm currently a volunteer for a horse rescue named FRIENDS. I really love this place and I really want to get involved. Due to everyone's money troubles, the rescue hasn't received many donations and that concerns me. I really need creative ideas (or any ideas actually) to raise money/find donors/find sponsors for the horses/etc. If you guys could help me with this I'd really appreciate it. I know I'm just a volunteer, but I want to do more than just clean the stalls; I want to make a difference to this rescue.

EDIT: Thank you so much for the suggestions! I really appreciate it :) I've made a facebook page and am working on asking people and even companies to donate!

Raising money is easy- find people with money, make a convincing ask. Get rejected 19 times of 20.

This is just a basic way to spread the word, but make sure you have an active Facebook, Twitter and/or website and that there is some way for people to donate online.

Find a PR person, they have the skills and connections to get your message out. Write an exciting sounding press release detailing your innovative fund raising mechanism blah blah. Accept Bitcoins, that will get big media exposure, non profit accepting donations made with alternative currency, or something like that.

Events can be a great way to do this - it's often something standard like a trivia night or something horse related, and won't make too much money. But it can be a great platform to educate people about what you do and why your raising money. Once you've held the event, tap into the people who came along and who were interested in the cause, and let them know about your fundraising need. Rich people generally get approached a lot for donations, this can be a good starting point to find out who cares about what you do.
