I never understood why this subreddit had so many mods, yet so much spam. Glad to see it's getting some attention.

Same here. Mods seldom contribute to any threads or internal conversations and I'm unable remove half of them. I have a bit more free time to focus on this sub so I'm going through and cleaning it up. It's a huge mess!

It's about damned time! I was getting very close to seeing about claiming this as an abandoned subreddit. As an academic specializing in nonprofit management, this subreddit was really making me sad - to the point where I didn't even post a link to a cool study I recently released, because it'd just get swept up in all the spammy spam spam.

If things get sorted out, I'll gladly start contributing links to the stuff our research center occasionally puts out.

Oh noes. Well please post stuff here, don't be scared off. I'd be interested in academic perspectives.

The only real way to improve a subreddit is to post quality links.

Awesome and sorry for your frustration, this sub has been abandoned for too long.

I would just send them individually a message and ask if they're still interested in moderating the subreddit, and if not, to remove themselves as a mod.

I did it on a few subreddits I mod, and it usually helps to clear things out.

Great idea! Doing that now! Thanks

Thank you for doing this - looks a lot better and am looking forward to seeing this /r/nonprofit grow!

Happy to...I've felt guilty for not having done it sooner.

How does one become a mod for a subreddit?

[–]BlueOrange[S] 0 points1 point ago

Pretty simple, I can add you if you're interested. Would love the help.

Would be happy to help!

Cool, just sent an invite. If you have any questions on the process of moderating, let me know. Otherwise we're good to go.

Yay!

I've tried a few times to get a discussion going, but to little/ no avail. I would LOVE to see more conversations around best practices, systems designs, etc. I think there is a lot of help professionals can provide for each other (without conflicting interests) by sharing our experiences. Good luck with the scrubbing, and hopefully we can get some decent communication in this sub!

Thanks, I've spent hours on this yesterday and today but it's looking better. Less spam, more real community engagement!

Lol, I was about to say, well wtf do we post here? Then I noticed they weren't all DON'T.

Maybe make a DO list and a DON'T list

DO THIS:

  1. Ask questions to the community
  2. Post interesting non-profit related links

DON'T DO THIS:

  1. Solicit donations, likes/votes or survey responses
  2. spam us with your org's blog posts

If you need assistance look at these...

Excellent, I'll reformat the sidebar. Thanks!
