A clarification which might help: "he wants to build a website to help animals" - What does this involve? Helping domesticated animals, such as volunteering at shelters, or fundraising in order to support larger efforts for wildlife?

What part of the country do ya'll live? Looking at local chapters of service-based nonprofits will help, but there might be an organization in your area with an interest in animals who would love to start a youth outreach component.

My friend lives in Denver...basically her son is looking to help animals and he thought of a website but I think he (and his mom) really just needs some guidance.

He should check out Olivia's Art for Animals:http://www.oliviasartforanimals.com/.

Also, we have this blog post on kid social entrepreneurs that might help: http://blog.en.idealist.org/why-supporting-kid-entrepreneurs-might-solve-the-worlds-problems/

I was hoping someone would come up with some good suggestions here. I can only think of a few orgs with functional youth support. If he is interested in animals they should probably go straight to the SPCA and see if they have any programs. I am a member of the NAACP, which has a wonderful Youth & College Division, but obviously your mileage will vary.
