For those disappointed that there are still no talks of a Ruby/Sapphire remake, don't give up on hope of going back to Hoenn just yet. Allow me to explain my theory.

At this point in time, it doesn't make sense to remake those games. Gamefreak has made it clear that they're changing up the traditional formula of two games, two remakes, and a third game per generation. Now they've added more plot-driven games, especially with the series' first direct sequels. They've made it clear that they've restarted the series, as indicated by the lack of any gen I - IV pokemon in the main game of B/W. It wouldn't make sense to go back.

Another huge reason they wouldn't remake the games is because they don't take place during the same time as B/W. Gen I and III take place at the same time, and Gen II and IV both take place roughly three years after Gen I and III. Gen V takes place much later than Gen II and IV, so if they were to make a game that takes place in Hoenn at this point, it would make sense to have it take place during the same time as B/W.

I feel like instead of doing more remakes, whether that's remaking Ruby and Sapphire or making the third game to Black and White, they're combining those into more original games, Black 2 and White 2. With the events in the end of B/W talking about N flying to a faraway region, I'm guessing that he went to Hoenn and these games will at least partly be in Hoenn. An interesting way to look at it is they're fusing R/S remakes and Gray to make these games in a similar way Kyurem is apparently fusing with Reshiram/Zekrom.

tl;dr I think Black 2 and White 2 will have us go to Hoenn after the events of B/W instead of Gamefreak remaking Ruby and Sapphire.
