Agreed on Mitchell's effort -- there was one play in OT when Mitchell made a bad play in the offensive zone. He hustled back defensively and ended up blocking the point shot, resulting in a stoppage. Definitely his best game of the playoffs.

I also thought Rupp had some strong shifts in OT, including the near-game-winner.

That block by Mitchell was unreal. You're talking about the one where he had to sprint like the whole length of the ice, right?

Exactly the one -- I was cursing at his play in the offensive zone, but, man, he redeemed himself hustling back.

HE FELL DOWN ON THAT PLAY!

He fell down, gave up the puck and then hustled his ass off to get back on D and block the shot.

Amazing play.

McDonagh, 50+ minutes. Girardi, came back after getting his face stitched up to block more shots. Boyle, same story as Girardi.

I think Boyle was the Caps best player in OT!

(I'm semi kidding btw)

Boyle's gotta get his ass in check. We can't let the caps have 6 players on the ice

Feds has been playing fantastic hockey for us. Definitely needs a bit more recognition. He's definitely stepped it up.

Feds= quietly awesome.

Honestly, other than the players everyone else is mentioning. I thought every single person on the team had a strong game and all have their own little collection of highlight reels. Except Bickel haha

Also I thought Richards was having a few issues puckhandling at some points in the game, maybe the ice was crappy because it wasn't just him (Gaborik too but his were a little more of him not handling them correctly than bad ice).

Did anyone else think that tripping call on Richards was bullshit towards the end of the 3rd? Last time I checked tripping is only called when you don't play the puck and Richie got all puck (the puck just happened to be cased between tightly closed skates).

I thought Richards held on to the puck for too long during the rangers last pp. But I guess that's how he always plays it.

Yea sometimes it bothers me but other times not so much. It seems like he does it more to calm down play which is an improvement from our powerplay last year without him where there didn't seem to be any real cohesion until we got McCabe.

Agreed. I started cursing Richards for holding onto it for like ten seconds during a previous game (forget which one) and then he promptly shot and scored.

I have noticed issues with him handling the puck at times as well though, where he ends up giving it away or making a hurried pass that often doesn't end well. I know he has the skills---I actually think that it's more that he's too cool with it when he starts getting pressured, and ends up waiting too long to make a move or dish it off.

I guess that's better than guys that are too quick to "panic" though. shrug Regardless, he's a proven veteran so it's pretty hard to criticize too much.

edit: Also, on the PP I think it's often a case of not enough movement, which leaves him (or whomever) with no one to go to. So often it's around the boards or back to the point, or nothing. We have a terrible habit of standing around, but when we start circling, cutting though the slot, etc we get chances, and goals.

I don't why I've got this all figured out but they haven't ;)

Can someone fill me in on what happened to Bickel? I know Torts sat him last game for giving up that scoring chance, which was a real crap play. But last night I missed it, what'd he do this time? He only had like three minutes of ice time. He was like a kid in time out.

Torts said in the post game interview that since he got so little time in regulation (because of that scoring chance/shitty play in general), that he didn't want to use him for the OT because he was "iced/tight."

I'm glad other people are recognizing Mitchell's efforts. Someone in the game thread predicted he would get the GWG in OT...like everyone else this was my reaction. But he actually came VERY close by my count 3 separate times. I was very very impressed

After reading that comment I keep hoping Mitchel would get it every time he touched the puck. So damn close.
