Civilizations can rise and fall, all without being significantly affected by the infall."
But from the point of view of an observer outside the black hole, all this history -- past, present, and future -- would be simultaneously displayed in two dimensions on the horizon. And the phenomenon would not necessarily be limited to black holes. Information about everything happening in any large volume of space might be spread out, in two dimensions, on its surface. Some physicists compare this kind of universe to a hologram, in which a three-dimensional image is encoded on a flat surface.

Then I remembered this article that indicates there is a possibility the universe (or at least what we can observe) is in fact a sort of hologram, and the underlying reality is really 2-dimensions.

Maybe its just a coincidence, but are there any big science neeyerds out there that can tie the two together? Am I just crazy here? (EDIT: I used to be a happy math nerd in high school but couldn't wrap my brain around quantum physics very well)

submitted by brjohnson789 to science
[link] [45 comments]

Liar busted.
