TROPHY CASE

Two-Year Club

Jailbreaking now made legal in US.

charlesgrrr 0 points1 point 5 days ago[-]

Awesome! Let's get those that have been unfairly and unjustly imprisoned out as soon as possible! Imprisonment in the US is at an all time high. Right now, more black men are in prison than are in college. "Jailbreaking" may be the issue of our time.

I'd always thought that this would come about through an abrupt political move of the masses, who have had enough. Little did I know that yuppy tinkerers with iPhones would lead the way...

A potential employer asked me what Linux distribution I liked most...

charlesgrrr 0 points1 point 5 days ago[-]

Ubuntu is the out-of-the-box linux distribution. That doesn't make it the best, except from the end-user standpoint. They're probably looking for someone who's done more than install the OS but has had to actually work with it under the hood a bit.

Also I'm sure that's what all the other kids with linux listed on their resume said. Probably the one that got the internship said CentOS or something.

Hypocrisy At It's Worst: 40 Senate Republicans Who Filibustered $25 Billion In Benefits For The Unemployed Because It Was "Fiscally Irresponsible" All Voted For Bush Tax Cuts That Will Cost America Over $2 Trillion

charlesgrrr 0 points1 point 5 days ago[-]

And how many Senate Democrats now posturing as opponents of the Bush Tax Cuts supported it originally? Hypocrisy at it's worserest?

Hahaha (laughs nervously), we can't afford to hire anyone...

I'm sorry there isn't a business in any of this. That doesn't mean reddit isn't a great idea.

I personally think reddit the concept might do better without venture capitalism anway. Imagine thousands of distributed reddits, all under the control of the masses. One would think what we pay each month of enough to support such sites which, after all, are sites full of content of OUR making: popularity as content.

Do or do not. There is no try.

You blew it. You took the opportunity to impress yourself and you blew it. You don't deserve to win the girl.

I would have said "I was going to ask you the same thing", something that kept the conversation going along this line while putting the ball in her court.

A Pew Research poll finds that only 34% of Americans know the bank bailout was passed by President Bush, while 47% incorrectly think it was Obama

charlesgrrr 2 points3 points 14 days ago[-]

Yeah but that motherfucker supported it...that was just a few short weeks before the election and that was the final test by the people that really control the elections of whether Obama was a man to be trusted by them. He was, and now he'll have his place in the history books, which is and always was his final aspiration, as opposed to helping everyday people out of this mess.

The army has introduced a new lead-free "green bullet", removing up to 2000 tons of lead annually from the environment.

Why don't you paint a peace sign on 'em while your at it? That way all those people shot at using American know our real intentions.

Starting today July 1st, 2010 if you have been denied health insurance due to a pre-existing condition, you can now get health insurance.

charlesgrrr 0 points1 point 29 days ago[-]

Does that include being poor as a pre-existing condition?

Your politics are a reflection of your life. Good day.

These stories make me sick, not because CA welfare recipient withdrew $12K from strip club ATMs, but because they're being run to deliberately divide us politically

charlesgrrr [S] -2 points-1 points 29 days ago[-]

But "the left" doesn't defend itself on the basis of being more fair for all, and as better distributors of money taxed from the wealthy and the right wing layers. The left defends itself on the basis that it's under attack from the wealthy and the right wing layers.

What you're implying is that for each progressive action on the left there must be an accommodation to the right. If we're to have welfare, it must qualify through the right's standards or there might be some popular backlash.

This is not true for two reasons, (1) since the interests of "the left" and the interests of "the right" aren't the same and (2) the population isn't moving to the right but is moving to the left. These petty differences are becoming less and less important as the economic crisis radicalizes the political outlook of millions of working people and the unemployed.

Even if it were 12K people it wouldn't be some epidemic of abuse of the state's resources.

Larry Ellison, the founder of Oracle, lives in California. He has more money to his name that California's budget deficit in 2009. How many people died indirectly in 2009 because California couldn't fund the social services people rely on, especially during these hard times? I bet it's greater than 12K.

THAT's an abuse of the state's resources.

America's Energy Sacrifices

charlesgrrr 0 points1 point 1 month ago[-]

The harm is that you're calling for people to sacrifice their living standards for the corporate right to profit. Society, government, economy, all of these things exist to serve humanity and facilitate rich, long lives for all. Achieving this under capitalism, even regulated capitalism, is impossible because profit cannot exist without the exploitation of labor.

EDIT: But the production of goods CAN exist without the exploitation of labor.

People will not have to sacrifice. People will have to fight, and that's where we're going.

You're assuming I'm wasteful, and don't know a thing about me. This illustrates a most serious problem with the liberal point-of-view: that people are just wasteful and too stupid to prevent the destruction of our natural resources.

But that's not the problem. Everyone KNOWS our energy resources are used wastefully, but it's a fact of modern economic life that your everyday person can do nothing about it. Yeah yeah, I know, you ride an electric bike or drive a hybrid electric car to work everyday, but most people can't afford to protest with their shopping habits.

The problem is this parasitic layer that dominates nearly every facet of our lives. From the energy sector, to the banks, to the healthcare industry, to war, the problem is the same: the corporations use the resources of society for their own good and don't give a fuck what happens to us.

Grow a pair, be a socialist. Advocate revolution, don't moralize over people with your shopping habits and your petty, useless lifestyle habits.

Screw that, nationalize the energy companies and enforce strong safety standards, starting with BP and Massey Energy's assets.

You're calling me escapist? You advocate that consumers turn out the lights and ignore the destructive reality of corporate management of our natural resources....I will not turn out my lights. I'll leave them on and continue to advocate nationalization of our natural resources until enough of us say the same thing and it actually happens.

What a shitting comic. I mean, what's it really saying? That's it's the consumer's fault that safety guidelines are shoved aside in the mad pursuit of profit, and that it's the consumer's fault that our military is sent abroad to kill on behalf of American capitalism? What a bunch of horseshit! Our government is no more under the control of the people of this country than prisoners are of their warden.
