On the other hand, the sentence structure and grammar of Chinese is ridiculously easy compared to most other languages. A word is a word; no gender forms, no plurals, no verb conjugations, no tenses. While the tones are hard to get the hang of at first, it's made up for by the fact that there are only 57 different sounds to learn (in Mandarin anyway), and outside of slang the pronunciation of those 57 sounds hardly vary at all. I ignored the written aspect when I was learning Mandarin, and found it really easy to pick up. I had a harder time when learning French.

College was great for me because of the friends I made. Don't shy away from people you'd normally never hang out with-- get to know a wide range of people, attitudes, and personalities. You'll never know what you might learn about yourself through conversations and experiences with them. Once you get out of college it's even better because you have an even greater pool of people to pick from to find your friends! (Though you do have to be more creative in breaking the ice with people out in the "real world").

Mhm, what poubelle said! I'm only 30 but I am in the midst of having the pieces of my puzzle come together. It's terribly exciting and liberating. I spent my childhood and teens feeling pressured to be who my parents wanted to be. I spent my twenties feeling pressured to be who society wants me to be. From here on in it's about being who I want to be.
