Toronto G20 Police threaten to rape and torture journalist and female protesters. Male officers strip search and cavity search females.

The woman in the report is with "[http://2010.mediacoop.ca/](The G20 Alternative Media Centre)," an organization that can hardly be considered impartial. Nonetheless, her claims deserve attention. It will be interesting to see if they can be substantiated.

Which computer first got you started on programming? Here is mine: ZX Spectrum!

gregwont 2 points3 points 1 month ago[-]

The first computer that go me interested was in grade 9 at school in Canada. An old DEC PDP-8/E with an ancient 110 baud teletype and paper tape reader. The next year we got some TRS-80 Model 1's and the following year we finally got a computer with colour, an Ohio Scientific C4P. That same year (1980) I got my first home computer, an Atari 800 which I eventually outfitted with a 128k (page flipped) RAM card and an ATR8000 CP/M box through which I hooked up four 8-inch DSDD disk drives giving the BBS that I ran from this beast over 4 megs! of storage (this was back when Atari 5-1/4 inch floppy disks could only hold 90k)

I'm a fan of the 2nd amendment, but this kind of makes me reconsider...

The is material from Wendy Cukier. Ms. Cukier, in addition to being a Professor at Ryerson University in Toronto, is a co-founder and the current President of the Coalition for Gun Control (CGC).

I would take any graph produced by her group with a grain of salt as she clearly has an agenda. She has long been one of the loudest voices against firearms in Canada (and now the world in general).

If you go to the http://ryerson.ca/SAFER-Net/ page shown in the image, you will see the disclaimer:

Since the focus of SAFER-Net is on the health and safety effects of small arms and firearms, the choice of articles to be posted here has been biased towards groups and publications who share this focus.

Anyone grow up listening to records?

gregwont 1 point2 points 4 months ago[-]

I still have a bunch of records, mostly late 60's and 70's rock in 45rpm and 33 1/3 LPs and even a few classical and 50's rock 78's that I got from my Dad. Also still have a couple 30+ year old old open reel decks and even an 8-track player and some cartridges. They all mostly sit in storage. I picked up a USB turntable and transferred some of the impossible to replace LPs to digital, but other than that most of this stuff just collects dust. Records and reels can sound great, but reels decay over time and records are just too much work and damage too easily. Even looking at old Walkmans it is amazing how cumbersome they seem now next to iPods.

Is anyone else in the blizzard of 2010? Post your Pictures.

Reddit, this is my dad holding my 2 y/o daughter. He died on Friday. Unlike some of your pics, he was not a badass, but he was a generous and honorable man. He died at 84.

I'm sorry for your loss. It is a terrible thing to lose a family member. I'm sorry too for the responses of a few of the more juvenile minded and heartless folks on Reddit. It is wonderful that he was able to know his grand daughter before his passing.

What was your worst encounter with the police?

gregwont 0 points1 point 6 months ago[-]

I've been pulled over many times (especially when riding a motorcycle), but I can't say I've really had a bad encounter with police. In each case they were polite and just doing their job. Could be a Canadian thing. :)

Dear Reddit: What's the most beautiful place you've ever been?

And the "Going to the Sun Road" Waterton Provincial park in Canada borders Glacier National Park and both are spectacular.

The Cabot Trail around Cape Breton Island is amazing. Even better on a motorcycle. Info here

Proving That Size Does Matter: Awesome Article on Andre the Giant

For an article that was supposedly just published July 22nd by "JP" it bears a remarkable resemblance to one published in 2006 by Richard English at Modern Drunkard http://www.drunkard.com/issues/10_06/10_06_andre_giant.html
