you may want to get your reading skills checked, because you missed the above line from me. what wasn't clear was how you could survive by just stopping working. very few people can do that as it requires a lot of advance planning and saved money to survive. you seem to have it all in order. good for you!

saying "nearly insignificant" is like saying you're just a little pregnant. so why not take the difference: 5% of the black population voted for him because he's black. are you saying that a larger percentage of whites voted for mccain because he's white?

i sided with obama here: there are people that vote one way or another based on color. as far as decisions come, that's about as racist as you can get. i believe the racists cancel each other out.

i think you misunderstood my point. even with a medicare type system, we will not see savings beyond 5% max. not to say that 5% is nothing, but again, the u.s. pays the equivalent of 2 or 3 times the cost for healthcare per person compared to europe or japan, and we have shittier health. none of the current plans address the issues of improving health, cost, and controlling for drug prices and physician availability. they only address access, which is obviously important, but it isn't going to make a dent in affordability or improved health.

obama received something like 95% of all african american votes. practically unanimous. how many of those votes do you think factored in race? now how many of the 55% of whites that voted for mccain did so because he is white? to me, it's really very simple: if you vote and any part of your decision has to do with the candidate's race then you are a racist. racism is alive and well, and it goes both ways.

i think obama explained this issue well during his presidential campaign: there are people out there that will vote for him ONLY because he is black, and there are people out there that will NOT vote for him because he is black. then there's everyone else. i think the same applies here. there's a bit of both then everyone else.

the u.s. pays 2-3x as much per person compared to the best universal/government plan out there. the problem most people supporting the proposals here in the u.s. is that health insurance companies are not responsible for this huge difference. they contribute to it, but if any of you expect that prices will drop by that amount even when 75% of the citizens in this country are enrolled in the public option then you are shoving your head in the sand.
