And although these languages are very closely related, I can feel a shift in my way of thinking (in a fundamental way) when I travel for more than 6 weeks and speak (and think, and even start to dream) english. I always thought that this effect has to be much more extreme with languages which are not this close, and I always suspected that people who grow up, speaking different languages, grow up to think in different "terms"... and that this would also shape believe systems and cultures. But this is not a one way road, languages also get shaped by cultures.
