Why, Orson Scott Card. Why?!

woodeye 4 points5 points 1 day ago[-]

Why... because he is a massive dick of a human being. He wrote one good book, several crappy follow ups, and then a ton of incredibly cringeworthy political diatribes. His opinion at this point is just complete shit.

Is Conservapedia a parody site? Am I a victim of Poe's law?

woodeye 1 point2 points 3 days ago[-]

Yes, it is a parody site... except the people that run it and contribute to it just don't realize it.

Lovely Pictures of futurist houses, cars, furniture...Oh, god, the crazy! (2/3 down the page)

The entire bottom of that blog is one mighty insane WTF!!!

Apparently Adam and Eve each had 5200 strands of activated dna, while us normal humans only have 380. Yep... this person knows this for a fact. The crazy only get crazier the further down you read.

Arizona, you've re-elected "Hanoi John" to US Senate. Congratulations

woodeye 0 points1 point 6 days ago[-]

First of all... it was a primary not a general election. Second of all only registered Republicans could vote in that particular primary, and turnout for any primary is always notoriously low compared to a general election.

So all that really happened was about 20% of registered Republicans in the state of Arizona chose a more moderate John McCain to represent them in the general election rather than the foaming at the mouth tea bagger Hayworth.

Yes, McCain will probably win in the general, but that has not happened yet... and if it does happen it will probably be without the support of the Tucson region. For the most part we wish we could secede from the rest of the damn state... it gets old having the Phoenix region always dictating how our state will run.

Ummm, Bush is releasing a memoirs? This is going to be good.

Is this one of those books where you can win a prize if you color inside the lines?

Side note: When I was four I won a coloring contest... the prize was a spiderman race track set made out pure precision pressed plastic awesomeness. Damn I wish I still had that thing...

I'm a Christian.

woodeye 1 point2 points 8 days ago[-]

I think you are really missing the point here. You can not honestly tell anyone that being born into your Catholic belief system has not colored your perceptions.

Did you choose to be baptized, or were you baptized by your parents before you could make that choice for yourself?

Did you attend any religious services other then Catholic ones during your childhood, and when you first started going to church did you make an active personal decision to do so, or did your parents simply say "Time for church." and take you along with them?

If you had been born on an Indonesian island with no access to a Catholic Church... would you still be Catholic, or would you most likely follow what ever tradition was presented to you as a child?

To simply denounce the idea that being raised in a religion naturally prejudices you towards that religion seems pretty absurd.

Atheists of reddit: Are you afraid of ghosts or other aspects of the supposed supernatural despite your atheism?

woodeye 2 points3 points 9 days ago[-]

Nope. I may be afraid of what's out in the dark and reach for my handy sword cane every now and again, but that's out of fear of a potential thief, not anything supernatural. I gave up on ghosts when I gave up the idea of an all powerful white guy in the sky. Nature surprises me sometimes with the creatures that have come forth, but I am comfortable with my belief of science and natural processes, which at least for me leaves me no room to believe in ghosts, gods, fairies, or Sasquatch.

But chupacara... now those little bastards are real! ;)

You don't actually know who Seth Green is do you? You just described Seth Rogan, not Seth Green.

Obama has been tough, smart on economy

woodeye 1 point2 points 10 days ago[-]

As long as you do recognize that the 700 Billion dollar Bank bailout was the original program that came from the Bush admin just months before he left office, and had almost no controls built into it at all. That was the one that was a total give away, and it was done before Obama came into office.

Where as the majority of Obama's bailouts had various controls built into them and much has already been paid back as a result. His stimulus packages have also not been anything remotely like that first bailout, which was just Bush giving candy away to those that raped us. It's pretty handy for the Right to blame Obama for that.

Science and industry may do the heavy lifting, but god will get the credit if it works... and science the blame if it fails.

Do the right thing again Arizona…send John McCain packing tomorrow

woodeye 3 points4 points 10 days ago[-]

For JD Hayworth... are you fucking kidding me? I am not a McCain supporter, but there is no way in hell I would ever vote for that massive asshat Hayworth.

Republicans flood message board criticizing Obama for taking a vacation. Didn't Bush take the most vacations in Presidential history? And while New Orleans was drowning he was eating B-day cake with John Mccain!

woodeye 18 points19 points 13 days ago* [-]

Yes... they would complain. They would complain that they are not visiting New Orleans. They would complain that they are not swimming in the waters off Florida to prove it is safe. They would complain if Michelle took their children to Europe to visit a family friend who just suffered a tragedy in the family. In fact they did complain about each and every one of these things.

Note how not one of these issues has any importance at all in our current political situation... but the Right complained about every one of them and got a ton of news cycles doing it.

Distraction politics... it seems to be what our politicians do best at this point. The GOP is doing everything they can to distract and obstruct because they believe "we the people" are too stupid to realize it.

They appear to be correct... on the whole, we are too stupid to elect the people we need to have a functional government where both sides come together to pass compromise legislation.

woodeye 32 points33 points 13 days ago[-]

Every person who argues that he should not be vacationing with his children during their summer break is an absolute asshole. You know if he did not vacation with them, and Michelle was taking the kids somewhere without him so he could stay and work to fix all the problems Bush left him, you would be bitching about how he hates his family.

Pull your heads out of your asses and how about we come together to repair this country instead of acting like complete partisan shit heads all the time.

The left seems split between pragmatic Obama supporters, and more idealistic Obama haters who feel let down by him. Is anyone else starting to worry about this dynamic handing the next round of elections to the GOP?

woodeye 1 point2 points 13 days ago[-]

Don't fear them voting for the GOP... fear that they will not vote at all... which considering the motivation of the GOP, is just as bad as voting for them.

woodeye 1 point2 points 13 days ago[-]

It's exactly the dynamic that the GOP is hoping for, and as per usual, since Democrats have always lacked the cohesion of the GOP... the liberals are preparing once again to hand over everything the GOP wants... yet again.

Having just listened to Obama rip on the Corporatization of our democracy... something I have never heard a Republican complain about, I swear I am going to smack the next person who complains that both parties are the same upside the head with an oil covered fish until they are unconscious.

Chief Standing Wolf issues a warning “reverse your laws entitling only English-speaking people to inhabit Arizona. Only then will we back down and allow peace to again grace Arizona, but if you deny our fellow red and brown men their rightful place in this state, there will be bloodshed.”

It's not that hard of a concept. I die, and stop worrying about it. Worry about life, not death.

If it were actually about "respect", then how about those arguing against the mosque try using some in their arguments? It's not about respect, it's about hate... plain and simple.

Meanwhile in Brazil ...

woodeye 5 points6 points 18 days ago[-]

Fair enough, but if you could post links in Portuguese or whatever then we can at least use Google translation to get the jist of it.

Not that I don't believe you, but everything is unsubstantiated hearsay and opinion on the internet, unless evidence to prove otherwise is presented.

Any chance that you can provide a link to back up your claim? I believe what you say is certainly possible, but I have come to expect the manipulation of truth when it comes to internet posts like this... so I would certainly like to see some evidence to support your claim that these people are paid to protest and trucked in in full costume for photo shoots.
