If you're a smoker....just kidding. Here's a picture of Christina Hendricks at some Oscar Part

woodeye -12 points-11 points 2 days ago[-]

Eh... she looked super hot in the Mrs. Reynolds episode of Firefly, but it's been all down hill from there. Ok maybe not all down hill, but I think we can all agree is at her best sans makeup and wrapped only in a sheet.

India looks to create history on International Women's Day. Women's bill, to reserve 1/3rd of all seats in the Lower House of Parliament and State Assemblies for women, to be voted on today.

woodeye -1 points0 points 2 days ago[-]

This may be a big improvement, and even perhaps the best that can be hoped for at the moment. It will result in more women lawmakers as a percentage of the whole then in the US, but it also seems to suggest that this 1/3rd is the upper limit for women in government. For the time being this my be the best that can hoped for, bit I hope you strive for a removal of gender limitations altogether over time.

Disney Pulls ABC off Cablevision 12:01am Sunday - 3 Million Northeast subscribers to miss Sunday's Oscar Ceremony

woodeye 0 points1 point 2 days ago[-]

Actually since only about 8% of the population had any intention of watching the Oscars live, this really only affects about 240,000 who give a mild shit about the Oscars.

Senate Democrats Lash Out At Obama Demanding Halt To Wind Energy Program. 79% Of The Stimulus Money Went To Create Jobs... In China

woodeye -1 points0 points 3 days ago[-]

This is what we get for 8 years of the Bush/Cheney policy of stifling research and development of the US Green tech industry.

If Gore had been elected and gotten his plans for a massive boost in green tech research we would almost certainly be the world research and manufacturing leaders for wind and photovoltaic tech.

Oh well, at least we got 2 wars, massive tax cuts for the rich and absolutely no reforms of any kind over 8 years. Sigh.

Stop posting shit from Boingboing, it's worse than fucking Ebaums.

woodeye 1 point2 points 5 days ago[-]

BoingBoing is worse than Ebaums?!?!??!?

I am afraid you need to go back to your crack dealer and ask for a refund. You got some bad crack. Seriously, stop smoking it right now... that shit is killing brain cells you clearly can not afford to lose.

F*CK YOU Steve Jobs for trying to kill Adobe Flash!

woodeye 1 point2 points 17 days ago[-]

Fuck Flash for trying to kill itself by becoming crappy bloatware.

Congratulations! We've forgotten about Haiti.

woodeye 0 points1 point 17 days ago[-]

And you, while trying to be helpful to the Haitians, are instead coming off as a massive dick... this is not the way to be helpful. Not at all. Chill the fuck out and find another way to spread your message. This is not the way to do it.

Are you a fan of John Oliver (British guy on The Daily Show)? I just found out he has a weekly satirical podcast called "The Bugle".

woodeye 2 points3 points 17 days ago[-]

I have been an avid Bugle-lizer for over a year now... one of the funniest weekly audio programs there is. Fricken love it!

Patriot Movement Calling Joe Stack a Hero - ABC News

Am I missing something... most of the comments here on reddit are saying the exact opposite of that. By and large it appears to me that we redditers are calling him the terrorist twat that he was... minus of course some of the dickier dicks among us anyway.

Digg crushes Reddit and keeps on growing. C'mon guys!!! RAWR!!!!!

Ding! We have a winner.

CNN Perpetuates Dangerous Tuskegee Myth (Black men were never used as syphilis "lab rats")

Here we go again, as if we needed another reason to think reanimated was a massive twat.

Hmmm... ONE DAY after Obama announces that the USA is getting back into the nuclear plant business, the nation that's the top source of uranium is overthrown in a military coup. I'm sure there's no connection at all.

woodeye 0 points1 point 19 days ago[-]

You know... if you do not wish to imply that Obama is involved then you do not need to use his name in the subject line. However it was used, and it was implied, wether the submitter meant it or not.

If I write a headline that says "Hmmm... ONE DAY after Dick Cheney says he wants to get into the Chicken Uterus business, the company with the largest output of chicken uteruses is suddenly subject to a hostile take over. But I am sure there is no connection at all."

Does this not come across as implying that Dick Cheney was involved in the hostile takeover a chicken uterus company?

woodeye 2 points3 points 19 days ago[-]

So wait... an African President illegally alters the law to allow himself to continue to be President indefinitely, like any dictator... and you are surprised by an armed uprising against him... oh and Obama must have been involved?

Really?

What... ever.

I'm about to break up with someone on valentine's day...don't know the best way to do it.

woodeye 1 point2 points 23 days ago[-]

Seriously... you will feel like a major ass for the rest of your life if you break up with her today. Just hold off a couple days.

This is the coolest sink I've ever seen.

woodeye 4 points5 points 23 days ago[-]

It is pretty cool, but what concerns me is how the toilet in the edge of the picture works. There is a hole down near the bottom that seems to line up with the drain as well. I really hope that it doesn't drain the same way as the sink does...

Avatar the Last Air Bender Trailer!!!! Will it be awesome or terrible?????? Comment if bored!!!!!

woodeye 1 point2 points 23 days ago[-]

I am with you on that... though I fear it a bit because of who is directing. I hope he can pull it off though, it was an outstandingly well crafted series. Not sure how you can wedge the entire story in one movie though...

Here he shows the satellites orbiting our planet. Russia, as you might expect, has a whole lot of satellites that are no longer functioning. China is responsible for a surprisingly large amount of tiny space trash, though I'm not exactly clear on what that is... [pic]

woodeye 2 points3 points 23 days ago[-]

China is responsible for a lot of small particles because they purposefully destroyed a satellite in orbit while not considering for half a second what kind of mass debris it would create. So in one single event they generated nearly all their space debris. The space community was not happy.

I can honestly say that I never wanted a box filled with camel balls ...until now.

Thoughts on Limited Liability: Suppose we made shareholders liable for up to 1% of their assets in corporate bankruptcy cases - you can lose up to 1% of your net worth to cover the unpaid debts of corporations in which you own stock. Would that change shareholder behavior to less risky investments?

woodeye 1 point2 points 1 month ago* [-]

1% would have no noticeable effect at all. If your are looking to offer a real penalty that would have any effect you would need to make it 15 - 25% of all corporate officer's pay, plus a corporate wide no bonuses clause unless the company is operating in the profit and not under any sanctions for bad corporate behavior.

That would be a top heavy penalty that would also effect middle management and make a bonus an actual reward for good corporate behavior, not some absurd entitlement not actually tied to performance at all.

Edit - I read this wrong originally... I do not think shareholders who have no actual involvement in running a company should have any liability. However I think that the officers of any company absolutely should, and they seem to be the ones that drive companies to ruin at the shareholder's expense while making millions upon millions for themselves and then moving on to another victim, I mean company.
