While I agree with you on the second part about the racist aspect of the comments and maybe even that that the old guy made some racist remarks in the beginning, it doesn't matter. He should have never swung on him, bottom line. He got beat down, and who are you to say that the black guy wasn't a threat anymore? If someone swung at me, I am going to beat him down to the best of my ability until I am sure he can't get up. I don't know if I would have stopped when he did. I think the old guy showed pretty good restraint (physically, not verbally).

Well, I think their logic is (and don't get me wrong, I totally disagree with it) is that if they do these reverse stings, people will be less likely to go out seeking drugs and prostitutes because of the fear of being arrested. Obviously that's bullshit and people are going to go after what they want regardless of police tactics. They may just try and find a different avenue.

Spot on Seth_Cohen, you definitely summed it up better than I. The only thing I would add is that Ehrman was a heavy evangelical christian when he entered Princeton Theological Seminary in the '70s before becoming agnostic shortly after graduating. So he knows the thought process behind an evangelical christian too, which makes his teachings that much more fun to listen to.
